A friend brought me two big boxes of books. This one is about the forced removal of the Cherokee (and other tribes) from their homes in the southeastern US to Oklahoma. The town where I live is on the Trail.

I took this along for a ride to see the Mississippi River and found, after talking to the park ranger in the museum, that this park is now certified as part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. The dedication is on Thursday. I left the book on a sign overlooking the river. After such a long journey for the Native Americans, I think that the sight of such a huge river must have seemed like the final point of no return.
