Back: They dubbed him the Collector,so named for his ritual of collecting victims before disposing of them in the most heinous ways possible. FBI Special Agent Maggie O'Dell tracked him for two years, finally ending their game of cat and mouse. Now Albert Stucky has escaped from prison..and he is setting up a new game for Maggie O'Dell.

Some say Maggie O'Dell has lost her edge as one of the FBI's best profilers. Since capturing Stucky, she's been walking a tightwire, battling nightmares and guilt over the victims she couldn't save. Now that Stucky is loose again, she's been pulled out of the field. But she knows it's only a matter of time before she's drawn back in - because she can see so clearly into the mind of this madman. And he's counting on just that.

At Stucky's trail of victims leads closer and closer to Maggie, she is put back on the case under the supervision of Special Agent R.J.Tully. Together they race against the clock to hunt the killer who remains one bloody step ahead of them.

While at time Maggie O'Dell smacks of Agent Starling in the Slience of the Lambs, Kava has managed to write another thriller, that has your adreneline racing, and had me reading well into the early hours of this morning!! The character development is well done, and Maggie is certainly a character that you empathise with. This series is certainly gaining strength with the second installment, and already has you hanging for the third!!

I will be sending this on to Germany tomorrow morning.

This book was terrific ! I've found it even better than Kathy Reichs' novels though I'm a fan !!
Thank you for organising this 'ray !

Received this book in the post this morning. Can't wait to start reading it!!

Journal Entry 11 by LG27 on Friday, March 19, 2004
I enjoyed this book. It'd the 2nd Alex Kava book I have read. I actually met her last year at a book signing session for the release of At The Stroke of Madness.

I like her books but I find the endings a bit abrupt.

I will be sending it onto tamugrad02 when I receive their address.

Got this in the mail today. Am about half way through my current book, when I finish it I will start this one. Will journal again upon finishing.

Journal Entry 13 by tamugrad02 from Virginia Beach, Virginia USA on Wednesday, May 5, 2004
Finished this book last night. Though I really enjoyed it, I felt that it was a little too long. Maybe that's just me and my lack of patience. It was great though, and it was one of those books that you can't stop thinking about, even after you've put it down or finished reading it. Will send on to the next person in line as soon as I receive an address.

Journal Entry 14 by WarEagle78 from Opelika, Alabama USA on Monday, November 15, 2004
Look what showed up in Alabama today! This came to me from iagal, even though she never journalled the book. I'll journal again when read.

Journal Entry 15 by WarEagle78 from Opelika, Alabama USA on Friday, November 19, 2004
The story's been well-chronicled in the above journal entries, so I won't go into that much detail. I thought the book moved well, I liked way the character Maggie was written. I could almost see and taste her fears.

Thanks, FifthElement, for sharing. This book will be on its way to New Hampshire tomorrow morning.

Journal Entry 16 by butlin from Hudson, New Hampshire USA on Tuesday, December 7, 2004
received - will put on tbr pile which is finally getting smaller!

Journal Entry 17 by butlin from Hudson, New Hampshire USA on Monday, January 3, 2005
I enjoyed this book, although there were a couple of places where it dragged (just a little). I've never read anything else by her, but will definitely look for things in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Journal Entry 18 by babyimran from Kajang, Sultanate of Selangor (Shah Alam) Malaysia on Monday, January 17, 2005
Oh no! There are three books in my mailbox and two of them are bookrings. Will find the time to slot this in.

April 3 - finally finished reading Crime and Punishment which was meant for a book relay but last week the receiptant says no need to mail it to her. Try to finish this up soonest possible so I can send the book off to finish its journey.

April 14 - finally have the free time to sit down and finish the book. It was a great crime thriller with a common ending with a twist. Yum, yum. Wanted to share a quote from the book which I liked: Remember this and only this, Margaret O’Dell. The decisions we make in a split second will always reveal our true nature, our true self. Whethere we like it or not. When that split second comes, don’t think, don’t analyze, don’t feel and never second-guess – just react. Trust. Trust in your self. You do that – just that – and I’m willing to bet you end up with nothing more than a little mud on your shoes.

The next person in the list has not accepted the offer. It will be going off to Canada as soon as I go to the post office.

Journal Entry 19 by HoserLauren from Burlington, Ontario Canada on Friday, July 1, 2005
The book has arrived safely!

I will try my hardest to read it quickly, but I am in the middle of a school term and (unfortunately) school work comes before reading!
Thanks for sending it along.

Journal Entry 20 by HoserLauren from Burlington, Ontario Canada on Tuesday, July 12, 2005
This is the first Alex Kava book that I've read (and I was surprised that Alex Kava is a female, even though that really has no relevence). This book was more of a thriller than a mystery, as there really weren't any "who done it?" questions for the reader. There were some points where Kava would repeat character traits over and over. I found that to be annoying, but otherwise the book was good!
I'll be heading to the post office to send this off soon.

This one is on its way to YowlYY!
Safe travels!

Arrived here a few days ago, safe and sound :) Thanks for shipping it and for starting the ray - it is now 3rd on my Mount ToBee and I hope to get to it soon. I will make a journal entry with my comments once I've read it. Cheers!

Journal Entry 23 by YowlYY on Saturday, September 3, 2005
Wow! Now I know a little bit more about Maggie and everything clicks into place :)
This is what...the second book about Maggie O'Dell? For me is the third read, as I started with "At The Stroke of Madness", followed by "The Soul Catcher", which is the third in the chronology. I recognised some of the protagonists that will be having a majour role in "The Soul Catcher", and having "met" Albert Stucky I understand better her psychology. A very good and gripping read, as the others I've read so far, no great literature, but surely a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I am shipping this tomorrow to Kanapoutz....happy reading to her, and thanks again to FifthElement for starting the ray :)

Journal Entry 24 by KanaPoutz from Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur France on Monday, September 12, 2005
The book arrived from Nottingham today, thanks YowlYY! (Very nice, those stamps!)

Journal Entry 25 by KanaPoutz from Cannes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur France on Wednesday, January 4, 2006
Finally read it! I enjoyed it and found it quite gripping, but I thought the ending was a bit disappointing, and too abrupt. OK, how could it be more obvious that we are supposed to be dying to read the next book?
Anyway, thanks for the bookray!
Going to oneteam1time today.

Happy New Year to all of you!
