Using fictitious references, he talked his way aboard a ship bound for England and sent a telegram to his parents with the fateful words "Gone to Sea". So began Peter Taylor's first nautical adventure, crewing on a British tramp steamer from sleepy Napier to post-war England via Australia and apartheid-riven South Africa.....
