From the back of the book: "In this witty and warm-hearted account, Peter Mayle tells what it is like to realize a long-cherished dream and actually move into a 200-year-old stone farmhouse in the remote country of the Luberon with his wife and two large dogs. He endures January's frosty mistral as it come howling down the Rhone Valley, discovers the secrets of goat racing through the middle of town, and delights in the glorious regional cuisine, transporting us into all the earthly pleasures of Provencal life and lets us live vicariously at a tempo governed by seasons, not by days."

Very enjoyable!

I chose this from the Dancing-dog/Bookpatch Trade-sized Paperback Bookbox. I thought this was on my wishlist...but I guess not!

I finished this tonight and really enjoyed it. I've taken the last 10 days or so to read it very slowly---my favorite way to process travel narratives! I must say that Mayle and his wife were VERY patient as they waited for builders to fulfill their promises, as well as in just getting accustomed to their new surroundings. If I've found any fault at all with the book it's that the author uses the term "gastronomic" enough times to be gastronomically unsettling. Surely there's another word...

Will release soon.

arrived safely yesterday - thank you very much! I vaguely remember this being on television in the UK when I was in my early teens, and I look forward to reading this one.

Enjoyed this book - I thought at first that it would irritate me (the 'bumbling English in France' routine but it was actually very good and made me laugh out loud in several places. I think it's probably a book of its time - the aspirational middle classes of the late 1980s - but it's still a good read. And yes, they must have had both endless patience and very deep pockets!
