Subtitle: "From Kipling to Independence." Twenty short stories set in British-colonial India, the majority by authors rescued from "undeserved obscurity."
Just could not get into this, despite a variety of writers. I think the problem was that too many of the tales are written in the glacier-paced style of 1890s/early 1900s. But someone else might enjoy, so I will release book in the wild.
(I would, however, like to read Flora Annie Steel's novel of the Mutiny, "On the Face of the Waters," a best-seller when published back in 1896. In his preface to 1982 edition of 'Raj,' Paul Theroux notes Steel's book is "no longer obtainable and is probably unread." Not anymore! I found it on amazon.
