Grabbed this at Little Britannia. Never heard of the author and I have no idea what the book is about, but if it says "refreshing, disturbing and original" on the cover then maybe it's worth giving a chance!

I guess you'd need to be on drugs yourself for this book to make any sense...

I lost this book for awhile but thankfully found it when I was packing up my books!

I'll be honest, I didn't think much of this one. By the end of the book, I was still confused about the Vurt. I understand the drug taking of the feather takes you on a trip but this trip seemed to make real things happen. You can get lost inside the Vurt, which is basically what this story is about.

Scribble has lost his sister to the Vurt, the sister he sleeps with...... and he is desperate to get her back. I'm not even sure what is worse, the sister fucking in this book, or the dog fucking? There is both here. Dog fucking is normal in this book and has even created a race of half breeds of dogs and humans. We are also given a rather disturbing image of a dog/girl licking her own privates. Thanks for that Jeff.

And I also couldn't wrap my head around the reality, which was set in Manchester. Some people were robo, some shadow and some pure which I gathered just means you are normal. Oh and dog, which we've already covered. It seems like everyone just takes drugs, mostly legal to escape this bleak reality.

And I just didn't like any of the characters, they were petty drug taking thieves. Wasters. Just not the sort of people I can root for.

The story is readable, which is why I've not given it one star but at no point did I want to take time out of my day and read this in leisure. This was read mostly when I was waiting for things or on my lunch break. If it's the only thing you've got to hand then it's not the worse thing to read but this wouldn't be my first choice!
