Different than other Grisham novels, this is not a legal thriller... but it is no less a good read!

The book reminds me of "A Thousand Acres" by Jane Smiley: Grandpa is a farmer, his father before him... "To Kill a Mockingbird" too: difficult issues of life as seen through a child's eyes. The story is told in the voice of a young boy on the farm.

Class and social standing all hinge on whether you have a painted house -- or just a unpainted, weathered shack! But those that grew up on farms know -- there is more to being alive than just hoeing corn!

Thanks mom! It is wonderful and once I start reading I can't stop. Unfortunately it took me a while to come here and I can't Remember where I found it.
