Every once in a while, I come across a book from that little talked about subset - books "published after the author's death". If it's an author I particularly like (as in this case), my initial reaction is to be thrilled that there's one more book for me to read. Unfortunately, it seems that there's usually a reason the book wasn't published earlier. That, I think, is the case with this story. It's not that I didn't like it...it's a good story...it's just that the writing isn't up to what I've come to expect from Wyndham. It took me about 50 or 60 pages to really get into it and I'd probably have given up if it wasn't such a short book (only 141 pages). I kept getting the feeling that he wasn't finished with the story yet...but I guess we'll never know...
