Bought this while on holiday last week.
Heroism or cowardice? A stunning story of the First World War from a master storyteller. Told in the voice of a young soldier, the story follows 24 hours in his life at the front during WW1, and captures his memories as he looks back over his life. Full of stunningly researched detail and engrossing atmosphere, the book leads to a dramatic and moving conclusion. Both a love story and a deeply moving account of the horrors of the First World War, this book will reach everyone from 9 to 90.

I'm in the middle of reading this book and I'm finding it very moving, even though it was written for children.
When I'm done, I intend to release it as a RABCK in memory of my beloved sister Bookcloud who passed away on 30th May. She too was fond of Michael Morpurgo and was making a collection of his books for her grandson, Ethan, who she adored. I know that this particular book was one of her favourites and her copy is waiting until Ethan is old enough to appreciate it.

I can see why Bookcloud (Sue) loved this book. Despite being for children, I found it extremely moving and ended up in tears at the end. I think it would touch even the hardest of hearts.
This book was won by marilina85 in my recent RABCK. I hope you enjoy it.

Wonderful book! The first one I read by this author, but not the last.
I agree with madmadge, it's very moving and one of those books I didn't want to finish, because I was really enjoying it.
The characters are well described and Charlie was my favourite.
Las week it was my mum's birthday and I bought "War horse" for her in Spanish because she doesn't read in English, and I hope to find the translation of "Private Peaceful" for her
