CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sent today as a book club read.
Arrived safely today. Will journal and return as soon as I am done. Thanks so much!!!!
I found this book to be very repetitive. I was hoping to learn a bit more about Hemingway then I already knew. The writing style did not capture my attention. I am sure my book club will have a good discussion about it.
Returning this to wildflower37 who was kind enough to lend it to me for my bookclub.
Thanks for the quick return! I hope to get to this soon.
I really loved this book! I was surprised, actually, how much I did enjoy it. Although I must say that I didn't love the character of Hemingway (which I am imagining to be similar to the real Hemingway) and how he manipulated women. But the descriptions of living in Paris - the sordid and sublime times - were very thought provoking.

Sent as part of the literature VBB. Hope you enjoy it!
I received this book today. Thank you for sending it to me wildflower37. I look forward to reading it.
I found this book interesting. The decadence and loose morals of the 1920's I found quite surprising, but perhaps that was common in the circles the Hemmingways ran in. Also, possibly people were really living it up after the terrible years of WWI. I did not care for Ernest who mostly came across as self-centred, but I liked Hadley, his wife. I did find it surprising that she was willing to accept his infidelities, at least for a while.
Mailed today to cherryj as her choice from the General Literature VBB hosted by bookstogive. Enjoy!
Book received today from Maranlin! thank you!
Loved this one. It has two of my favourite things: it's historical fiction and told from the point of view of an interesting woman.
I didn't know very much at all about Hemingway's life or novels, let alone knowing anything about his wives, so it was pleasant to read him and his first wife, Hadley Richardson, without any preconceived ideas getting in the way.
From what I understand, the novel is fairly true to what is known about Hadley's life. I have to say, she put up with a lot of nonsense from her husband for a long time. I was sad to read a story about two people who had such an intense first connection, but who ultimately had different wants and needs as the years went by.
Right after reading this book, I picked up The Sun Also Rises, which I believe I am enjoying more after reading about Hemingway's life before and during the period in which it was written.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I am moving to Spain so I've had to donate all my books. This is the last book I finished before getting on the plane, so it was too late to send it to the Friends of the Library sale. I left it in the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel YVR.
