Amongst the eggs in the honesty box!

Woo hoo! Look what I've found :o)

I found this at the B.R.I.C.C. in Ballantrae. I love to have a rummage in this charity shop when we are up this way ever since I discovered it a couple of years back & books cost the huge sum of 10p!!! (yeah, I stocked up - how could I not?) - and as there are shelves & shelves full needless to say I was in heaven. Sadly now its £1 for 4 but still what a bargain, but I digress....

This isn't a book I'd normally choose to read but I spotted the authors name & as KawasakiBabe has just given me another book by this author which she enjoyed I picked it up.... & out popped Ballyclumber! Well, how could I resist........

Taking this to read & release on holiday in Florida.....

Oh dear.....well, I've never read anything by this author but KawasakiBabe has given me a few & if she says it's good then I find it is, she's never let me down - till now!!

I must admit that after reading the dedication I had my doubts - for some reason it really rubbed me up the wrong way! Too full of his own self-importance maybe.

Anyhow as for the story itself I've abandoned it at page 18 when Maria's boss offers to take her to Rio...enough!

I don't like the style of writing, it's like someone recounting a fairy tale but not in a good way...guess the opening of Once upon a time.. did nothing to dispel that idea.
I didn't like Maria from the off & her reaction to "losing her first love" (at the ripe old age of 11) struck me neither as tragic or sad but just plain pathetic (cue much rolling of eyes) & after her diary entry aged 17 quite frankly I just couldn't be arsed with anymore of it! Having said that I picked it up again a few days later & read ...well, flicked through... to page 60 but no sorry, it's gotta go........
