An interesting background - the Paris floods of 1910 - that I knew nothing about, a pianist heroine trying to make a career in the patronising, chauvinistic world of professional musicians of the time, and a hero who thinks he is a murderer. I should have enjoyed it more but couldn't care about the characters enough.
