This is not an ordinary book: it's a BookCrossing book! BookCrossing books are world travelers - they like to have adventures and make new friends...and every once in a while they even write home to say what they've been doing.

This book was found in the library of Purple58, a very special woman whom I was fortunate enough to meet through our BookCrossing group, the Table of Contents.
Fiercely independent, with a loving heart and a wicked sense of humor, she was passionate about the things she believed in and was willing to stand up and be counted when necessary. She was truly a one of a kind individual, and she will be missed by all of her many friends...who prefer to believe that she's off in Vegas, having a fabulous time and eating as many desserts as she wants.
This book came home from purple58's wonderful send-off with me. I think Holly would have loved her final party and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it.
This book will be heading out soon in honor of an exceptional woman who would be happy to see her books keep traveling.

I love me some Ray Bradbury!
Received a great 'welcome home' gift after the Christmas holidays! A box of books!

"I'll make a voice like all of time and all of the fog that ever ways; I'll make a voice that is like an empty bed beside you all night long, and like an empty house when you open the door, and like trees in autumn with no leaves. A sound like the birds flying south, crying, and a sound like November wind and the sea on the hard, cold shore. I'll make a sound that's so alone that no one can miss it, that whoever hears it will weep in their souls, and hearths will seem warmer, and being inside will seem better to all who hear it in the distant towns. I'll make a sound and an apparatus and they'll call it a Fog Horn and whoever hears it will know the sadness of eternity and the briefness of life."
"“That’s life for you," said McDunn. “Someone always waiting for someone who never comes home. Always someone loving some thing more than that thing loves them. And after a while you want to destroy whatever that thing is, so it can’t hurt you no more.”

Wow. Bradbury can write - but he's also an odd duck.
I would almost keep this book just for the short story The Murderer. It's like he looked into the future and imagined iWatches and cell phones and TV and computers - and he KNEW that we would all be reachable 24/7, without any quiet time.
“ I laid plans to murder my house… It’s one of those talking, singing,, weather reporting, poetry reading, novel reciting, jingle jangling, RockaBuy crooning when you go to bed houses. ...One of those blathering caves where all kinds of electronics oracles make you feel a trifle larger than a thimble, with stoves that say, “I’m in apricot pie, and I am done,"
"A house that barely tolerates humans, I tell you. The front door that barks: “you’ve mud on your feet, sir!“ And an electronic vacuum hound that snuffles after you from room to room…“
And The Fog Horn. Beautiful and touching.
