This is Book # 1 in Lorraine Bartlett's series A Victory Square Mystery-a series of three books. She also writes under the pen names Lorena Barrett and L. L. Bartlett.

The last thing Katie Bonner wanted was to become the manager of Artisans Alley. But when her business partner, Ezra Hilton, is found lying at the bottom of a staircase, bludgeoned to death, she has no other choice. A collection of booths for artisans and craft sellers in a renovated apple warehouse, Artisans Alley is the main attraction in the quaint Victoria Square shopping area. But business under Ezra had been faltering-enough to provoke someone to murder?

I rated this book as an 8 which means I think it's a good, solid book that I would recommend to others.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

This little book is about to embark on a very long journey going from the USA to Nepal to visit with our friend lils74.

The book begins by disclosing an "accident/murder" in the first paragraph. From there the action moves quickly and keeps the reader interested until the end. A few pages before the end the murderer is identified and other things become resolved. The reader can slow down and enjoy a happy ending. BUT then the author puts you on a fast track ride to the exciting conclusion!

I've already begun reading the 2nd book in the series!

What a fantastic surprise to find this waiting for me in my post box today -- thank you so much, Weeder, I really appreciate it! My TBR is stacked with quite a few more intense books so this looks like it will be a welcome change. I look forward to reading it!

This was a most satisfying cozy; part way through I thought I wasn’t going to like it as much as her Booktown mysteries as Katie seemed a bit too judgmental and prone to jumping to conclusions but as I got into it I warmed up to her, and I really liked how it turned out, especially as she gained sympathy for and understanding of the various people in the community. Also the killer was unexpected—for me, a boon; I love it when I don't guess whodunnit. I can’t wait to read more in this series and by this author.

Thanks so much for sending it to me, Weeder. Checking to see if there's someone I should pass it on to.
