The Shiniest Jewel

Found this at Miami's library book sale and snatched it up as it's not often that I come by a graphic novel. Or in this case graphic non-novel.
In line drawings that is both unrefined and vivid, the author chronicles her life near 50. Single with a boyfriend many years her junior and a father failing in health, she wants to adopt a baby from Russia. She takes the readers along on her emotional coaster roller: joyful, anxious, peaceful, sad. A tender story, filled with wit and humor.

I enjoyed how the artist is able to capture the emotions with such simple line drawings. Both moving and funny.
Got back fm Macaufan a while back, kind of forgot about it but now that Gory's graphic novel box is here the book is ready for more travelling!!
I like shiny...and this cover is, with nice holographic foil accents. :)
Taken from GoryDetails's graphic novel shrinking bookbox with thanks.

Masquerading as an ordinary novel - hardcover, dust jacket with holographic foil accents - but actually a memoir in graphic format.
This is not the first "graphic memoir" I've read (Alison Bechdel comes to mind) but I still think that term doesn't quite work. On the other hand, it's not a graphic novel...
Anyway, this "family love story" is about the author/artist's quest to adopt a child while adjusting to other changes in her personal life. Sweet.

It's now your book, for you to do with as you please: keep it, pass it to a friend, or maybe even leave it where someone else can find it!
If you've ever wondered where your books go after they leave your hands, join BookCrossing and you may find out: you'll be able to follow the further adventures of your books as new readers make journal entries - sometimes from surprisingly far-flung locations.
(Think of it like Where's George for books: a little like geocaching or a treasure hunt - you can follow a registered book's journey every time someone makes a new entry. Some BookCrossers even leave books *in* geocaches!)
