This is a second copy I'm releasing of my book - there's loads of reviews appearing on amazon so I hope you enjoy it too. Best wishes from a transgender genderqueer author out there to make a difference and help the world understand and accept gender diversity a bit better.

Found this on the shelf in Coffee#1 this morning while stocking the bookshelf. Delighted to see a local author releasing through Bookcrossing and with BC personal bookplates too! Not my usual reading style but very happy to be better informed. Thanks grrlalex for making this available and welcome to Bookcrossing.

Grrl Alex is written in two distinct parts. The first two thirds is a record written in a very personal style, relating Alex’s journey, navigating his way to a secure and honest self-image that allowed him to live his life at ease with his feelings and outward image. The second part gives an overview of the academic research, which supports Alex along the way. In some instances affirming beliefs already held or sometimes leading to total rejection of the findings of others. I found this enlightening and informative, giving me an insight into the complexities of transvestite and transgender dilemmas. In essence Alex had to travel on a crash course through teens, puberty and eventual adult hood. As hard as this learning curve is for a natal female (and some suffer more than others) traversing this minefield as a transgender male would be hell on earth! I applaud Alex’s journey and even more the outcome. He has achieved what you can only hope others will emulate: an exterior image/style that is interesting, attractive and refined, not hiding his maleness but finding a good balance between both sides of his nature.

I read this on a journey to Paris. Initially I found the minute details of clothing and various ensembles rather irritating and repetitive, but I found the book increasingly interesting as it progressed. The final chapters, more serious in tone, spoke to me more. I can fully understand a desire to make the subject accessible to a broader public, but do have issues with slangy writing ("kinda", "yeah" etc) which for me just trivializes the issue and "dumbs down" the reader. I was nonetheless very glad of the opportunity to read this, and am glad that society is gradually making a safer place for transgenders and others with other than mainstream lives. Despite my reserves about the some of the writing, this is an important book.
I have the next address and hope to post from here in the next day or two.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It gave me an insight into a topic about which most of us can only wonder, because it is still taboo(ish), to say the least, in the mainstream media and culture.
I must admit, I've always felt bad for men, be they genderqueer or not, for the limits imposed on them in dressing and appearance by the society. I generally dislike societal pressure, especially when it comes to things that are basically trivial for the well-being of the society, but important for the well-being of individuals. I hope one day the society will not give a hoot about genders and sexual preferences, will not classify differences like these in gender and sexuality as pathological in any way, and will allow its individuals to freely express their inner selves. I'm glad there are brave people like Alex in the world who have conquered their fear and the society-imposed shame, and have come out and "exposed" themselves to the mercy of the society, and am happy to be on of those who will gladly give a warm smile to all those who do not fear to show their true selves to the world. As with most things different, when genderqueer stops being unfamiliar, it will become accepted. :)
The book now travels on. I have contacted romy86 and got the address, so the book will continue its travels next week, going sea-mail to lovely Australia. I hope it reaches even more people after this ray ends.

Unfortunately this book arrived damaged 😞. The envelope was open and the book was wet right through! (Maybe it got dropped in the sea!). I have to say, it arrived very quickly for sea delivery!
I have had the book outside in the sun all day to try and dry it out. It is still quite yucky. I will try and read it as it looks good, but it is a bit off putting and cover has a strange feeling to it (bit ack as I don't know what's been spilt on it - green tinge on top of book. Shudder to think!). Cover also feels very greasy. I have tried wiping it down but not helping.
I have one ray ahead of this, then I will see how I go with it. I will let the next person know about the condition in case they may prefer not to receive it.

This was a fairly quick read. Only half is Alex's story, the rest is interesting information on the topic.
I did enjoy reading this one once I had dried the book out sufficiently!
I've always been someone who is a little different myself in appearance, so I knew what Alex meant about the stares and comments, although obviously 100 times worse for him being a man! I admired his courage and I have to say his dress sense is awesome! I think seeing someone like Alex about and about would make my day. How boring when everyone is exactly the same.
If I have a quibble with the book, maybe it's that I would have been interested to read more about Alex's personal life and his relationships. Obviously that's not what he wanted to focus too much on as I think here be is just trying to bring awareness to transgender etc, but a really good story to me would include all the day to day stuff and interactions with girlfriends, colleagues, family etc. It is covered, but it's minimal. Just personal preference here.
All the same, well worth the read. Will get this out to AlterEgoZoe next week. I am glad she has decided to take the book in spite of its condition. Hopefully it can have a few more readers too!

While the book has an interesting layout (with other book or movie quotes dispersed throughout); I couldn't get into it, despite trying several times. I am not sure if it was the use of slang or what..
Seeing that there is no one after me in the ray, will try to keep the book moving.
