The Thorn Birds
2 journalers for this copy...
"A saga of three generations of the indomitable Cleary family begins in the early 1900s when Paddy Cleary, a poor New Zealand farm laborer, moves his wife and children to the Australian sheep station owned by his rich sister."
Surely everyone remembers a TV series with Richard Chamberlain as the charming cardinal de Bricassart. But the book goes deeper than that and is more than just a love story between Meggie and Ralph.
This is an extra copy, purchased especially for bookcrossing and will be used to RABCK a friendly RABCKer.

Mmmmhhhh, I was sending you a book to get some free space on my shelf and what are you doing - you sent me a new one instead :-))
Thanks a lot!
It was really funny to find "Thorn Birds" in my post box yesterday because some days ago I talked with some friends about this book. I read it ages ago in german (probably when I saw the TV-serie for the first time) and really liked it (the book and the series - even if I can´t stand Richard Chamberlain as Pater Ralph). Some months ago I saw a rerun of the series and was a little bit "shocked", it was so schmaltzy :-)
Yes and last Sunday I helped a friend packing her stuff (she is moving) and "Dörnenvögel" felt into my hands, we talked a little bit about it and I still think the book was so much better than the series (probably because there is no Chamberlain in the book *lol*) and now I´m looking forward to read it again! Thanks a lot!! (I love such coincedences!)

I didn´t read the whole book - I loved it in my teens and just reread some of my favourite chapters. It really is a lot better than the TV-serie - but I still couldn´t get R. Chamberlain out of my head (wäh - don´t like him at all :-))
