9 out of 10

This was an excellent read, and I'm sure teenagers upwards will get a lot from it. It was full of magic, msytery, beauty and important moral messages, but written in such a way as not to be patronising. Also lots of action for those who prefer something a little faster.

Can't wait for her next one! Adn yes, it's enjoyable for adults too!

9 out of 10

Isabel Allende is a wonderful writer and this book for teenagers is just as enjoyable, if not more so, than her adult fiction. Alexander Cold, the main character, finds himself on a journey through the Amazon with his eccentric grandmother, Kate. It quickly turns from an exciting adventure story to a murder mystery and every page leaves you guessing as to what will happen next. It is the first of a trilogy of books for teenagers and I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great adventure. The sequel "The Kingdom of the Dragon" is coming soon and I can't wait!

To my opinion the book took a while to start. It was a nice read, had alot of moral issues which is good for teenagers to read about but I found that there was something missing to make it an excellent read. Towards the end the story became a bit more exciting and I enjoyed that.
