After his parents,the great Flying Berninis, die during an act without a net, George goes to live with his Uncle Fritz. Fritz introduces his little nephew to the finer things--sporting houses in Pigalle, jazz concerts in Montmartre, sex by the railroad tracks and a series of odd jobs calculated for their chaos they continually seem to engender. George loves this life, but he is lost in a custody battle to a more respectable aunt and uncle in Chicago.
