The Beach
9 journalers for this copy...
A group of travellers tries to create an eden on a beautiful, remote Thai beach, but the dream rapidly plunges into a nightmare.
The breakdown of social order reminded me of Lord of the Flies. This book was so good I couldn't believe it was a first novel. If you've seen the film-this is MUUUCH better. If you've back-packed in Thailand, it will bring it all back for you.

Part of 'author's first novel' bookrelay. Accepted by rachelsita, posting tomorrow.
Got this in the mail the other day from Shylock. I have never seen the movie so I am looking forward to reading this book. SOunds like a good one!
Great book. The first book in a long time that I really, really enjoyed. It was very interesting to watch Richard and the world around him fall into madness. Even though you see it coming, the last 30 pages had me holding my breath.

This arrived today, which was perfect timing as I finished a book last night and was searching for something to read.
What I loved about this book was that despite the fact that some of the main characters aren't very appealing, I was completely sucked into this story. It was interesting to see how the main character unrevels. I went out and rented the dvd after reading this and was interested to see how they changed what I thought was the main philosophy of the beach. It was much more of a resort in the movie. When I read the book I had thought their idea of paradise would be pretty boring and monotonous! To each their own.
I sent this book off to lauraloo29 yesterday. Thanks raquelsita!

Arrived today. I have a few rings in front of it, but I will keep this book moving. Thank you!
I wanted to get into this book. I've been struggling with it and as I've had "concerns" expressed over my bookring pile, I'll send this book on.
Arrived.
Waiting on address from shpriz1.
Sent to shpriz1.
Received it safe and sound. Will start as soon as possible.
Wow...Awesome...I LOVED the book. I was asking myself if I should read this book after seeing the movie (and actually hating it), but I am very glad I gave this book a chance. The writing is great. Reading the book, though, gave me a somewhat surreal feeling - I kept wandering how these places look like today - after the tsumani. How many of these islands and cities were affected by it??
Thank you for sharing this book.

Thank you raquelsita and shpriz1!
Thank you raquelsita and shpriz1!
I started reading this book thinking it would take me a looooooong time, and that it would be hard to read, the subject didn't seem too appealing. And then I got caught in the story, and could hardly put it down! It is very well written, and the relations between the different travellers in the beach are well set up.
I'll send the book to buchsuch as soon as I have his adress. Sorry for keeping this book so long!

Thank you for sending and sharing this book, which arrived today. I won't be able to read it very soon, but I won't forget releasing it in the wild afterwards.
