When BigJohnLefty's "Another CD Only" Bookbox arrived at my door, we had just completed a VBB from iwillrejoice and my Available pile was completely wiped out. I made a quick trip to McKay's Used Books in Chattanooga -- looking for a few good titles to contribute -- and found this one for only $1.95!

Loved it! I'd like to think that this is exactly what's going on in a dog's head.

Received this from Moody-Blue. This audiobook was one of my choices on iwillrejoice's Audiobook VBB list. Thanks so much for sharing and sending it on. I'm really looking forward to listening to this book.

I loved this audiobook! I'm so glad you decided to share this gem. Gotta love Enzo who is the dog that narrates this tale. He is fine specimen of "man's best friend". It is a very touching and heartwarming tale told in a dog's perspective. Enzo is the faithful companion of a part-time race car driver named Denny. He shares his family's life of trials and tribulations as he prepares for his own life's final journey. When listening to this audiobook, you will soon realize that Enzo isn't just any dog. Not only is he loyal and loving but is also patient, wise, and quite philosophical. This story will have you laughing and crying, no doubt.

“My soul has learned what it came to learn, and all the other things are just things. We can't have everything we want. Sometimes, we simply have to believe.” - Enzo -- The Art of Racing in The Rain

First off, I love the BC label! I've read Dewey's story and enjoyed it.

Second, I didn't realize till this moment that it's about a dog named Enzo. My friend has a dog named Enzo, which I called Murderer, because he has eaten 3 of my friend's budgies (which the family let out without properly ensuring that the dog was locked up in another room.) Not exactly the dog's fault but does make me feel not very loving towards the dog... Wonder if the family named the dog after this book?

Journal Entry 10 by Azuki at Miami, Florida USA on Tuesday, November 12, 2013
Gosh this is one of the best books I've read this year. Enzo loves his owner, an amateur race car driver Danny, and Danny's family: wife Eve and daughter Zoe. Enzo vows to protect the family as he observes the family life like a sagely guru. At times, he feels frustrated that he cannot speak. If he could, he could have warned Eve about the tumor he smells growing in her, before any doctor or machine can detect it. But he cannot speak, and all he can do is to give his support to Danny as he goes through the toughest time of his life.

The story makes me cry, it makes me laugh. I feel depressed one moment, uplifted the next. Enzo is the best dog there ever is!!

Borrowed from Azuki, who kept telling me that it's a good story.

I like the story and enjoyed the details about car racing, which are very authentic. The story itself is pretty straight forward, at times it feels like the author adds more things (like the car accident) just to make things more complicated. But overall it's good.

Now will return to Azuki.

Now I have it back it's heading to BigJohnLefty, who selected it from BookObsessed's audio vbb. Looks like this book has twice been in his audio box but never made it home to him. Now he finally get to enjoy it!

*****CANCELLED MY AUDIOBOOKRING DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST*****

<<<----Uploaded actual cover image of this copy here. ; )

My first ever AudioBookBox participation was in BigJohnsLefty's last one. I posted all of his titles in his journal for him, and in the thread, as well. I laughed so hard because I never dreamed the box he sent would be SO HUGE, and have SO MANY selections. I must have used an entire roll of tape to secure the battered box before sending it on it's way to the next person. I chose five titles, and have already released two of them. Three remain, and I'd like to keep them together, and offer them as a Bookring in his memory for those who are interested. I will be including a little journal for you to write a fond memory, if you like...in hopes to be able to send it to his family once it returns to me.

This will be my first ever Bookring, and with just three little titles, it will be inexpensive for all to mail. The titles are listed below. If you are interested in participating, please sign up here, and PM me.

NOTE...

Decided to keep these three titles a bit longer so I have a chance to actually listen to them in full before I offer them for RABCK in BigJohnLefty's Memory. ; )

Have you ever wondered what your dog is thinking?

Meet one funny dog—Enzo, the lovable mutt who tells this story. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: most dogs love to chase cars, but Enzo longs to race them. He learns about racing and the world around him by watching TV and by listening to the words of his best friend, Denny, an up-and-coming race car driver, and his daughter, Zoë, his constant companion. Enzo finds that life is just like being on the racetrack—it isn't simply about going fast. And, applying the rules of racing to his world, Enzo takes on his family's challenges and emerges a hero. In the end, Enzo holds in his heart the dream that Denny will go on to be a racing champion with his daughter by his side. For theirs is an extraordinary friendship—one that reminds us all to celebrate the triumph of the human (and canine) spirit.

NJABBIC RABCK Release in the works for this great listen. ; )

UPDATE 6/14/2017

I loved this story told from a dog's point of view, and the narrator's voice fit the character perfectly. I think I ended up reading the book to release for Secretariat's Challenge after finding it at Friends of the Library, instead of listening to the rest of it. Much easier for me to start and stop, and I do so enjoy the feel of an actual book in my hands. Have decided to put this one into erishkigal's WILD THING Bookbox, so it can continue on it's Journey, in memory of BigJohnLefty, and his AudioBookbox that it arrived in, which was his last...RIP. His Golden Retriever Jack, must miss him terribly. http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/9846748?page=2

UPDATE 6/16/2017

Correction...I have decided not to put this in erishkigal's Wild Thing Bookbox after all. Instead, I am going to send it to her as a RABCK. ; ) After doing a search of her Bookshelf, it doesn't seem as though she's ever read this one, while she has had several copies of Seabiscuit, or I'd send that along, too. She recently replied to one of my posts in her thread regarding the fact that audiobooks were great for her to listen to on long drives without radio signal, and while I don't know exactly WHEN she is going, I know she said in her profile that she makes a summer trip to the Rez for the Ceremony. This may be just what she needs for a little company on her trip this year. ; ) Happy "listening". ; )

This arrived on my doorstep as part of a phenomenal (ns)rabck box! I'm about to leave on month-long travels which include extensive driving in npr deserts, so this will go along. Hopefully, I'll be able to listen to all of it....but I'm stilling missing my Oscar terribly, so if it brings on too much bawling, I'll set it aside till I am able to listen.

Thank you, BWIUA, for a most amazing box!!!

oh, and having shared a number of books with BigJohnLefty, that association brings a smile to me :)

Journal Entry 18 by erishkigal at Salt Lake City, Utah USA on Wednesday, August 2, 2017
Well, I did listen to this while travelling, and absolutely loved it. But it was hard; it's been 6months since my companion of 15+ years died, and I miss him terribly. The first time I put it in, the tears started flowing almost immediately and I took it out again and listened to another book. And then I decided to try again, and made my way through, alternately sad and happy as I listened to Enzo and remembered Oscar. Stein's Enzo captured the essence of all our canine companions well. I laughed with him and cried with him, and didn't totally bawl again until the end. Thanks all for sharing this with me !

I was so surprised this book was not removed from the wild things book box. I loved it so much I couldn’t believe no one wanted to choose it… But as I go through the journals I see that a number of readers have read it in the past. So most likely I will put this into a little free library soon.

Released into this neighborhood LFL in the hopes that it will find a new ear-reader. I loved this book, listen to it on a long trip, and was so surprised they haven’t come back in the book box..
