Bought and read this book all in one day.....I bought it because I'm such a positive, happy person (people often grumble around me because I am always smiling and I LOVE Mondays!!) and I thought that this book would be good for a light read and a chuckle! I was right!! I am now planning to start a BookRay with a twist for this one....

Three requirements:

1) You are a generally happy, optimistic person!
2) Your journal entry includes your favorite pessimistic quote from this book & the reason why you liked it.
3) Your journal entry ALSO includes a positve statement that you feel strongly about!

***addendum to requirements--I don't mind this going international, but I would prefer if the journal entries were in English so that I will be able to read them. :o) Thanks!!

So if you would like to join on PM me!! I think this will be fun and very interesting and uplifting as well!!

My favorite quote from this book comes on page 19 under the subject of Life. It is as follows:

Life is easier than you'd think; all that is necessary is to accept the impossible, do without the indispensable, and bear the intolerable. -Kathleen Norris (1880-1960)

I like this quote because, when you think about it, it can be so true. We also must remember that it is amazing how many people have such great burdens to bear in thier lives, and yet they are an inspiration to all when they show us an example of how life does not have to get you down!

and now for my positive thought!! :o)

IT IS EASY TO SMILE WHEN YOU ARE HAVING FUN!! TRY TO HAVE FUN ALL THE TIME!! IF YOU FIND YOU ARE NOT HAVING FUN, SMILE ANYWAYS, AND FUN WILL LIKELY COME ALONG!!

I just received this book. My optimistic side says this want take no time at all to get through and I should have everything taken care of rather fast so I better p.m. have 2 smile right away for her address.
But here still is the pessimistic side that thinks....I am not going to even think what it thinks. Will journal later...

I have been procrastinating on this.This brought me quite a few chuckles. My favorite quote is the same as eriko 1908. But there were so many that made me laugh.
and now for my positive thought ...

When I am feeling down I just look around and see how much I have to be grateful for.

Released on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Bookray in Bookray, A Bookray Controlled Releases.

I found this book along with a few others that I needed to send out. My favorite quote is:

"Boys will be boys and so will a lot of middle-aged men" - F. McKinney (Kin) Hubbard

Now for my positive quote:
"I know God won't give me more than I can handle. I just wish he didn't trust me so much." - Mother Teresa

Sending to talon2claw who is next on the Ray list. Sorry it took so long :)

Journal Entry 9 by talon2claw from Akron, Ohio USA on Saturday, August 21, 2004
This book arrived in the mail today. The first quote I randomly opened it up to:
Whenever you want to marry someone, go have lunch with his ex-wife. (Shelley Winters)
I'm looking forward to picking out my favorite quote and sending it on to the next person on the list.
Thanks for including me in the bookray!

Journal Entry 10 by talon2claw from Akron, Ohio USA on Sunday, August 22, 2004
I got through this book in no time. My favorite quote was:
The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness. (Joseph Conrad)

My positive quote is this:
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched... but are felt in the heart. (Helen Keller)

I'll sending this book out in the next week.

Released on Friday, August 27, 2004 at Bookray in Bookray, A Bookray Controlled Releases.

Great book for a bookray! It actually went cheaper first class than media mail.

Journal Entry 12 by tamugrad02 from Virginia Beach, Virginia USA on Wednesday, September 8, 2004
Got this in the mail today. Looks like a fast read. I will journal again when I have finished it.

Journal Entry 13 by tamugrad02 from Virginia Beach, Virginia USA on Thursday, September 9, 2004
Cute book, and a really fast read. I think I read it in about 30 minutes!! My favorite quote in it was
"If it tastes good, it's trying to kill you." -- Roy Qualley

It seems so true these days....can't eat what you want for one reason or another. And for my positive quote (an old one that I'm sure we've all heard)

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!"

I will PM the next person in line and keep this book moving.

Journal Entry 14 by tamugrad02 from Virginia Beach, Virginia USA on Thursday, September 9, 2004
Mailed off to Maurean in FL today. Hope the book is dry when it gets there!! I don't know how close you are to where those 'canes have been hitting, but please stay safe!!

Journal Entry 15 by Maurean from Atlantic Beach, Florida USA on Wednesday, September 15, 2004
This arrived in today's mail...some cute quotes in this one - will read and journal soon.

Journal Entry 16 by Maurean from Atlantic Beach, Florida USA on Thursday, September 16, 2004
This was a cute collection of quirky quotes (and, I liked the little blurbs about Aunt Ethel)! It was hard to choose just one favorite, so I chose three! (LoL) I think the one I liked the best was on pg. 35:

Life is something that happens to you while you're making other plans -Margaret Millar

because its soooo true! For that same reason, I also liked

No issue is so small that it can't be blown out of proportion -Stuart Hughes

And,

It begins with a prince kissing an angel. It ends with a baldheaded man looking across the table at a fat wife -Unknown

Just because it made me laugh!!

Hmmm..and my positive thought...well, I've always been partial to this particular Irish saying/prayer:

May the road rise with you.
May the wind be always at your back;
And may the good Lord hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Thanks for sharing this eriko, and I will pass this along as soon as I get the next addy! *mailed 9/25

Journal Entry 17 by Booknose from Henryville, Indiana USA on Thursday, October 14, 2004

RELEASE NOTES:

Next person wanted to be skipped so, sending on to 1stlite

Journal Entry 19 by 1stlite from Forsyth, Montana USA on Tuesday, January 25, 2005
This was a controlled release. Did receive this a while ago and finally got to it. I am sooooooo glad that I am not a pessimist!

My favorite quote was in the chapter titled The Optimist Pessimist.

Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm. - Winston Churchill

Overall a quick fun read. And it reaffirmed my belief in the optimistic side of the world.

Will be doing a controlled release to a fellow bookcrosser in the next week.

Journal Entry 20 by 1stlite from Forsyth, Montana USA on Saturday, January 29, 2005
Releasing this book today to fellow bookcrosser, fizzfred, through the mail.

Journal Entry 21 by fizzfred from Sacramento, California USA on Friday, February 4, 2005
This book arrived today. I must say I was not too optimistic about it ever making it this far down the list. :) I'm so happy it was not lost. I'll try to read it this weekend and send it off next week.

Journal Entry 22 by fizzfred from Sacramento, California USA on Monday, February 7, 2005
I had to pick three favorite quotes too.
"Reader, suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of congress. But I repeat myself." Mark Twain (1835-1910)
I don't think that really needs an explanation. :)
"Personally, I think if a woman hasn't met the right man by the time she's twenty-four, she may be lucky." Deborah Kerr
Because I couldn't agree more.
"I always read the last page of a book first so that if I die before I finish I'll know how it turned out." Nora Ephron
This just made me giggle. I have only done it a couple times. But, I do it to make sure I can handle reading the rest of the book.

And for my positive statement I have
"Happiness is a warm puppy." Charles M. Schulz (1922-2000)
Because I am sick right now and my warm puppy is really helping me feel better.

I'll send this to grooble as soon as I get an address.

Journal Entry 23 by fizzfred from Sacramento, California USA on Thursday, February 10, 2005
Sent to grooble today. Enjoy!!!

Journal Entry 24 by grooble from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Wednesday, February 16, 2005
Hilarious! I got it this afternoon, read it in about 20 minutes, and laughed!

When I meet a man I ask myself, "Is this the man I want my children to spend their weekends with?"
(Rita Rudner)

Journal Entry 25 by grooble from Adelaide, South Australia Australia on Sunday, March 4, 2007
The poem on page 63 has always amused me!

"to thine own self be true"
now handing this on to cosminx.

Journal Entry 26 by rem_IYK-917793 on Monday, March 5, 2007
thanks for bringing round so many lovely books, groobs :) sorry i missed you...

Journal Entry 27 by rem_IYK-917793 on Sunday, June 3, 2007
the 'ray took a side-step when it came to me. as others before me have said, this was a quick, fun read that gave me some laughs. sadly, i've got several favourites - yes, i know it's probably cheating, but i just can't choose between them, so i'll list all three!

"as surely as you try to impress someone, you'll do something stupid" - tamara valjean (only very cool people have never had this happen to them... and i've never been a cool girl!)

"there are only two ways to telling the complete truth - anonymously and posthumously" - thomas sowell (this speaks for itself!)

and, perhaps the favourite of my favourites - the legendary dorothy parker:

"razors pain you;
rivers are damp;
acids stain you
and drugs cause cramp;
guns aren't lawful;
nooses give;
gas smells awful;
you might as well live"

you'll be pleased to know that i have a few favourite "positive" quotes, too:

“just being yourself, being who you are, is a successful rebellion.” - author unknown.

“let us be kinder to one another.” – aldous huxley

“imagination is more important than knowledge.” – einstein

and no list would be complete without a quote from a fictional character:

“even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” - galadriel, “the lord of the rings: the fellowship of the ring”

i'm trying to get the ray moving to someone who signed up - i pm'd bilbi, but am waiting for a response.

Journal Entry 28 by rem_IYK-917793 on Saturday, June 30, 2007
try as i might, i can't get this 'ray moving in the direction it was intended. what i'll do is treat it like any book i've read and finished with - i'll pass it to someone who might appreciate it :) who that "someone" might be, i don't yet know... so watch this space!

**i've added this book to the lucky-dip satchel that's part of my 3rd anniversary rabck lottery, so it'll be heading out into the world soon**

Journal Entry 29 by rem_IYK-917793 on Friday, August 3, 2007
posted off to crimson-tide (who won the lucky-dip satchel) a few days ago, but i''ve only just been able to journal it (having problems with computer gremlins. grrr)

Journal Entry 30 by wingcrimson-tidewing from Balingup, Western Australia Australia on Monday, August 6, 2007
Thanks very much cosminx. I love these little books of quotations. I think "Ooh, now that''s a good one - I''ll have to remember that". And then the next day . . . yep, you''ve got it!! I can''t even remember what it was I''ve forgotten ;-)

Journal Entry 31 by wingcrimson-tidewing from Balingup, Western Australia Australia on Monday, August 6, 2007
My partner has already read it - obviously a winner!
Still TBR by me though.
