Just picked this one up. I've heard good things, and I've always been curious to see if Reiser is as funny on paper as he is on TV.

Paul Reiser's a riot. If you're looking for a Bible of Coupledom, the search is over. It's amazing that I can relate to nearly every point he brings up (I'm not married, so obviously there are some topics I can't relate to, but I took notes and am well-prepared for the future!). It's also amazing that I can hear his voice reading the book in my head. I'm not sure if that's because I watch too much "Mad About You" or because of Reiser's conversational writing style, but either way it's almost creepy.

The only gripe I have with Couplehood is Reier's excessive use of random capitalization. The copy editor in me screams at the many, many needlessly capitalized terms, phrases, and exclamations throughout the 348 pages (it's really a short book -- it starts on page 145. Don't worry, all is explained in the "Author's Warning."). If it were used sparingly, the capitalization would emphasize his points better.

But this is about laughs, not punctuation, and "Couplehood" definitely supplies plenty. It should be required reading for all newlyweds.

My favorite part (a friend of mine always is saying this):

"These are the two authorities running the whole show -- They and The Guy. The Guy, I believe, is president of They."

Eventually, I plan to release this book in the wild. But I’d like for it to travel a bit first, so that whoever picks it up later can read about its exciting adventures and what others thought of it.

So here are the rules:

+ Journal when you’ve received the book (so we know it’s not lost).
+ Journal when you’ve finished the book (let us know what you thought).
+ PM the person whose name appears next on the list for their mailing address and send them the book! (If you're the last name on the list, PM me for my address.) And don't forget to make another journal entry to let us know it's been sent to the next ring participant!

Also, please “autograph” the back cover of the book with your name, city, and state/country, so whoever “catches” this book later can learn a little about its history, even if he or she chooses not to visit the Book Crossing site.

Final mailing order:

Very funny and interesting book. It was a really quick read which was nice to have for a few days. I can relate to many of the points brought up and of course there were some that just did not apply.
I will pm the next in line and send the book on its way!

Oh my... I hadn't realized that I forgot to journal my receiving this book until I mailed it to the next reader in the bookring and went to journal it being sent! I had so much fun reading Paul Reiser and could hear his voice the entire time I was reading Couplehood. There were too many similarities between his marriage and my own- even my husband enjoyed me reading excerpts to him for a quick laugh. Thanks so much for sharing this book!

It is now on it's way to Alabama- sent to WarEagle78 on Friday, 2/13/04. Should be arriving soon!

Journal Entry 12 by WarEagle78 from Opelika, Alabama USA on Friday, February 20, 2004
Arrived in today's mail. Thanks for sending on, bookaddict22! I'll journal again when read.

Journal Entry 13 by WarEagle78 from Opelika, Alabama USA on Sunday, February 22, 2004
A quick read, a funny read. If you are familiar with Reiser, his voice will likely resonate in your head during the entire reading. And actually that's a good thing, some of his phraseology and sentence constructs would drive a reader nuts if they could not "hear" them articulated in Reiser's delivery.

Worth an afternoon. Thanks for sharing, wyldanthem! Will send on next time I hit the post office.

Finished this book pretty quickly. It was good light reading. I had to stifle some of my laughs while reading at work - I had tears coming to my eyes! I'm putting it in the mail today to Chivers. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 17 by wyldanthem from Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA on Monday, October 4, 2004
Unfortunately, I think this book was lost in travels, but thanks to chivers and nekki2979, we've found another copy so that everyone who signed up for the 'ring will still have a chance to read it.

Here's a link to the new copy.

Thanks again chivers and nekki2979! :o)
