Thank you again, Kally93. I look forward to reading it!

Read this in one day. I've only actually read 3 of the 12 books discussed, but that may even be an advantage: I've found that many of the not-yet-read ones should not be missed!
Blakemore describes 12 struggles endured or qualities possessed by female characters in literature, one for each work cited. For example, Pride and Prejudice's Lizzy Bennett shows the importance of being true to one's Self; Scout Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird embodies Compassion; Jane Eyre demonstrates Steadfastness. I enjoyed reading each capsule history of the work's background as well.
A wonderful extra touch: at the end of each chapter is a list of 3 situations/moods in which to read the work, and 3 "literary sisters" of the character. For example, Blakemore suggests we read To Kill a Mockingbird
* before a court date or having to stare down a particularly loathsome work project
* with your own little girl
* when you get tired of being yelled at by cable news [love that one!]
Jane Eyre's Literary sisters are:
* Mrs. de Winter in Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
* Cassandra Mortmain in I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
* Cathy Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
This book will move on in the Bookish bookbox.

Retrieved from the bookish bookbox and added to the Mt TBR stash!
another entry to get the book to show up in my list
from MaryZee's bookish book box; easy book just to skim through chapters on "themes", such as what fits with Faith or Dignity. Now moving along in another bookish bookbox
Originally from MaryZee's bookish bookbox, now going into the books bookbox.
Taking this out from the bookbox. There are actually two copies of it but I like this cover better. : )
This book is part book review and part author biography, of several of the author's favorite books that she keeps re-reading and finding inspiration and encouragement over the year. Needless to say, this is a very personal list, though all the titles can be considered classics and must reads. It makes me want to read the ones I haven't, and re-read the ones I did, so I can better appreciate them. And I think this books encourages us to take inspiration from our favorite books as well.
