Great book. I receieved it for Christmas and wanted to share it, so went out and got another copy for a book ring! Here's my original review

Strange, eerie, and engrossing. The story is basically of a sullen teen looking into his grandfather's life after 'the tragedy'. The author puts together a delightfully coherent story and pairs it with vintage and antique pictures a la Diane Arbus. There are so many threads that can be pulled out here, that the story and the images in this book will stay with you for a long time.

Imagine my delight to come home from a long day of work and be greeted by this book.

It has been on my wishlist for a while, so I was very excited to see your offer on a bookring. (This is my first ring!) Was just at the last pages of another book, so moved this to top of Mnt TBR and started it last night.

Will send it on its journey soon.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I really enjoyed this book. Thank you so much for the opportunity to participate in this book ring. The vintage photographs were so interesting and made a great enhancement to the text of the story.

On its way to the next North American BookCrossing reader.

Book is here! I am so excited. I've never seen the real book itself so I was surprised by how beautiful it is, the paper, the photos, the layout.
This book is here just in time for Dewey's Read-a-thon tomorrow. I am tempted to read it then, but I also want to enjoy it slowly. Either way, I am sure it will be a wonderful read.

Journal Entry 6 by wingAzukiwing at Miami, Florida USA on Friday, May 18, 2012
I really like the beautiful packaging of the book, with its smooth paper, sepia ink, at times macabre photos, and an imaginative tale. The ending is suggestive of more to come, in fact rich enough material to pull a whole series, so I am curious whether the story of Jacob and Emma will continue.
I've pm'ed the next reader, haven't heard back yet, so I will attempt another pm and contact the next one as well.

I enjoyed this book until it got to the very end. The last few chapters were less interesting than the rest of the book, but by then I was too much into it to stop reading. The peculiar children are like little X-Men. :) I loved the photos and thought as I read that the author must have chosen the photos and wrote parts of the story around them.

I have already attemtped to contact angelface46 and she asked to be skipped, so I have sent a PM to the next person and will mail this out as soon as I get an address. Sorry for keeping this book so long! My life has been hectic recently. I did enjoy it and appreicate you sharing it!!!

Unavoidably delayed somewhere under a car seat. Not mailed, unfortunately, but maybe it will phone home someday.

Bookray is being continued with this copy, generously donated by Hyphen8.

Book arrived over Thanksgiving week. Since Hyphen8's replacement copy is in better shape and has a better cover, I'll use it to continue the ring and return this to quietorchid, unless she prefers otherwise.

Welcome home book. It's been a rough journey. Dust jacket gone, and spine seperated from the hard cover at the frontspiece. Thanks, DrSlump612, for repairing it. I'll contact NZ (far end of Bookring) and see if they want this copy.

Hello quietorchid, It has certainly found a good temporary home. It got caught up in the Christmas PO shut down but I collected it about 3 January and have already finished reading it so will check out WishLists to see who is wishing for it. Much too good to just sit about and at my age books have to pass on rather than hang about in case I want to read them again.

This was not at all what I expected but nevertheless I found it engrossing most of the time. I'm not really into fantasy so some of those elements did not really gel with me. I did really like the way that Jacob was so keen to hear his grandfather's stories and that the two of them had such a good relationship even though Jacob suspended his belief when the tales were too outside his ken. It was a pity that the Emerson book was not mentioned again throughout the book although that didn't occur to me when I was reading, only when perusing the illustrations at the end. The inclusion of photos was a great idea - wonder, which came first the story idea or the photos?
The writer has a good command of the English langauge and invents great characters.
As other commenters have said it finished with a perfect lead for a sequel - whether or not I really want to read it is another story.
Seeing that Ransom Riggs has written "The Sherlock Holmes Handbook" I must follow that one up. Sherlock wasn't so fanciful but instead intensely logical.
Glad I had the opportunity to read this. Thanks to all concerned especially Hyphen8 for replacing the missing copy.

Daisyaday took this from the meetup in January but for some reason didn't journal it.

I caught it at the April meetup. I have read this before but really enjoyed it so am looking forward to re-reading it. Does anyone know if a follow up book has been written??
