From the back of the book:
"On a biting January day, the Reykjavik police are called to a block of apartments where a body has been found in the garden: a young, dark-skinned boy is frozen to the ground in a pool of blood. Erlendur and his team embark on their investigation and soon unearth tensions simmering beneath the surface of Iceland's outwardly liberal, multicultural society. Meanwhile, the boy's murder forces Erlendur to confront a tragedy in his own past.
Master crime-writer Arnaldur Indridason's Arctic Chill renders a vivid portrait of Iceland's brutal, little-known culture wars in a taut, fast-paced police procedural."

“Arctic Chill” is a good title for this very atmospheric novel. The plot was not all that suspenseful, but I liked the examination of how Asian immigrants fit into Icelandic society. My parents had immigrated to Canada from China in the 60’s, and so I find the subject matter of particular interest. As with his previous books, Indridason continues to explore family relationships, those of the victim and suspects as well as Inspector Erlendur’s own. Perhaps this is why I like the series so much. The Icelandic setting, which Indridason describes so well, gives an exotic, foreign feel to the books, but the family dynamics are universal.

I found some BC-stickers between the first pages, a great surprise :) Thanks for your generosity!

I really liked this part of the series, it was interesting to read about immigrants in the Icelandic settings. I think the same theme is a topical issue in Finland as well. This part wasn't as dark and hopeless as some of the previous parts I've read - I wonder if English language is lighter than Finnish as I've read Indridason in Finnish so far ?! I like the way Indridason tells about the relationships and history of Erlendur besides the crimes, I really wait to learn more about Erlendur :)
This book will perhaps find the next reader soon...

One step forward with Erlendur! This the first time I read Indridason in English, it somehow feels a bit different even though the undertone is the same. This was a very skillfully plotted novel, a thriller with a very sharp observations of the Icelandic way of life and how their culture adapts to growing flow of immigrants. Believable characters and very realistic atmosphere.
Erlendur opening up with his feelings is a treat and I always keep on waiting for even those smallest glimpses of him bonding with his children again. Also describing the relationships inside the police force and in the officers' personal lives is a trademark I wish Indridason holds on tightly also in future.
Reading Indridason always makes me wishing to travel to Iceland again, there is just something about that country that I have not found anywhere else.
Many thanks, lukutuoli!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Enjoyed the plot and back stories. While the setting is Icelandic, the themes are universal.
Thanks for sharing!
I was going to send the book to Niksu but now it seems that this book may continue its travel by courier who reads Arnaldur Indridason's novels too. Let's see who reads this one next.

Well, I did! This courier was eating from the load again and enjoying herself enormously.
I have visited Iceland and memories from that visit came back to me. It is fun!
Now Niksu may come freely to the meetings. I do not oppose.

The book is with me. Thanks erpax for my wishlistbook and thanks to annelis for being the courier.
I have noticed when traveling, the guaranteed good read are mystery books. They keep you busy in the airports and on planes. This I read during Monday when started my business trip and had to spend time in Arlanda and couple of planes. Very good read and insight to immigrants in Island.
This is suitable for a challenge called A year of books 2015, number 45. A book that scares you. There is nothing more frightening than something bad happening to your child.
