At an early age, Ruth Reichl discovered that "food could be a way of making sense of the world ... If you watched people as they ate, you could find out who they were." This is her memoir of a life determined, enchanced, and defined in equal measure by a passion for food, unforgettable people, and the love tales well told.

I don't like biographies & memoirs but I read a very brief review of this book way back in March 2008 & something in it must have piqued my interest as I put it on my wishlist! And my verdict? Loved it :o)
There's a quote from "Washington Post Book World" on the front cover which pretty much sums up my thoughts:
"Reading Ruth Reichl on food is almost as good as eating it...Reichl makes the reader feel present with her, sharing her experience".
Reichl's writing is so humourous & entertaining - from her trying to prevent her mother from poisoning their guests to teaching a superstar to cook (I never worked out who that could be)
I was sorry when the book ended....but there's two sequels - yeah! Hope they are as delightful & amusing as this one.
Many thanks Secret Santa you made a cracking choice :o)

I've been interested in reading Reichl for some years now and was delighted to find this book on the Convention table. Thank you for bringing it!
Food content is all it takes to make me pick up a book, but this one is highly entertaining as well. Ruth Reichl has a very welcoming writing style, you can imagine sitting on her couch and listen to her telling stories. And she has incredible stories to tell. I had so much fun reading this.
