A young English scholar goes to Italy in 1958 to study a Renaissance garden. But post-war Italy is still a strange and dangerous palce and the garden has some dark skeletons hidden away in it's past.

I really enjoyed this book, but was frustrated with some of the things the main character did.

I wish I had studied more classical legends, which would have made the story even more interesting.
