Pre-numbered label used for registration.

I picked up a somewhat battered ex-library hardcover copy of this at the Nashua Library's book sale last weekend; I remember reading it long ago, after seeing the excellent film version [the comments on the film at the IMDB site are worth reading, although some contain spoilers]. This is a riveting survival story with a twist that's so wonderful and unexpected that it must have been the "don't reveal the secret" book of its day... It's also a gritty character study and an emotional wringer - strongly recommended! [Might make an interesting compare-and-contrast with "The Sands of Kalahari".]

I just found this in our second mailbox, where the house owner's mail gets put and which we don't normally get our mail in and therefore don't check very often. In fact I only noticed it because the mailbox door was flapping open in the wind. Anyway, I hope it wasn't in there for long! I will get onto it next after I've finished my current book. Thanks!

I enjoyed this grown-up Lord of the Flies story - it was an absorbing tale of survival, human relationships and the technical details of aeroplane design! Now in the mail to illinicheme.

Arrived safely in California today. I should get to this soon, and I'll journal again when finished.

I enjoyed the story and completely agree with Kernow8's apt comparison to Lord of the Flies. Thank you GoryDetails for sharing this! It will be in the mail to arugh48187 this afternoon.

Received this book in my mailbox today along with FIVE other bookring books. GACK!!! I will read it as soon as I possibly can.

Released on Monday, January 26, 2004 at Post Office at 153rd and Garrett in Apple Valley, Minnesota Controlled Releases.

I am sending this out to the next person on the list without reading it. I am off to India in a week or so and don't think it should have to sit in my house until I get back in March. Perhaps it will pay another visit when it gets closer to the end of its journey.

I got this today. I'm almost finished with the book I'm currently reading, so I'll be able to get to this next. Thanks for the opportunity to read this!

I am passing this on to sjoseph tomorrow. He will love this book. I had completely forgotten that there was a surprise twist to this story. I was shocked! My husband, who had seen the movie, didn't tell me a thing until I finished the book. I'm glad he didn't spoil it for me. This book was wonderful. I am so glad I got to read this.

I think I spoiled this one for myself. While flipping through the book, I happened to accidentally read the very last line and so I knew somewhat how the book ended. So the book wasn't as riveting as it could have been, but I don't know if it would have been even if I didn't know the ending. Now if this book had been written in today's time instead of the 1960's, I think it would have been written more dramatically and would have ended up being an edge of the seat type thing. It is certainly interesting how books have changed in the last forty years.

Tootshelling has passed on this one and I haven't heard from kymberlie yet. But as soon as I do, it will be off. Thanks for sharing and sorry for keeping it so long.

Released on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Post Office at 153rd and Garrett in Apple Valley, Minnesota Controlled Releases.

En route to kymberlie as of this morning. Happy reading!
