Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero

Hardback book
From the inside flap:
Safety is somewhere down below, and 1,463 stairs are the only way out.
Every moment in Michael Hingson's life seemed to lead up to this day--this seemingly ordinary, abruptly extraordinary day.
When one of three hijacked planes flew into the World Trade Center's north tower on September 11, 2001, Hingson, a district sales manager for a data protection and network security systems company, was sitting down for a meeting.
Then came the irrevocable blow. While the world watched the horror unfold on television, Hingson lived it from a point of view no else could share. Hingson is blind.
But his story is just half the story. The other half belongs to Roselle, the courageous guide dog who would surprise everyone that day.
"Roselle sat next to me as calm as ever. She does not sense any danger in the flames, smoke, or anything else that is going on around us. If she had sensed danger, she would have acted differently. But she does not. I choose to trust Roselle's judgment and so I will not panic. Roselle and I are a team."
Thunder Dog details a remarkable journey as Hingson and Roselle rely on each other and inspire others to survive. Listen in as Hingson faces almost certain death and discover what happens when small, intensely human moments rise up--and even redefine--one of the most inhumane acts in history.
Just finished reading this book today....What a beautiful story...a must read for any dog lover.

Thanks for sending this to me, Flossie771. I'm looking forward to reading it soon.
I'd never heard of this book until recently. Probably someone mentioned it on the What are you Reading thread. I just finished reading 102 Minutes, another book about 9/11 so I thought I'd follow it up with this one. What an amazing story! I can't imagine what it must have been like to be trapped in the WTC, with the only way out many, many flights of stairs. But to not be able to see where you were going, surrounded by dozens (hundreds) of strangers, all with only one purpose in mind - let me get out of here, down, down, down...
Thanks for the great book, Flossie. This was a wonderful story by Michael, telling of what it was like to grow up blind and to learn to access a world that was never available to him by sight. He's an amazing man and this was an amazing story.
This will soon be going out as a surprise RABCK.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Mailed this off on Thursday as a tagalong book. Surprise! Hope you enjoy it!
Well, this book was really a surprise, since it hitched a ride with 102 Minutes. I'd never heard of this book, but it sounds fascinating, so thanks for including it!
A fairly quick read, but quite interesting. Rozelle was really something! This book will be headed out again soon.
Headed out via media mail as a wishlist tag book.
Received this book today, thank you. Looks like an interesting book, I love stories about animals and this one must be very courageous. Looking forward to it.
Everyone has different opinions about the books they read, which is why I will send this on. I felt cheated and deceived by this book. I expected to read more about the dog Roselle, and more about 9/11. Instead, I was basically treated to a rehash of the authors life. I would not recommend this book to anyone. Again...my opinion.
Going to the winner of the Happy Day RABCK.
Received in today's mail, thank you so much for sharing. It seems there are mixed reviews on this book but it does sound interesting so I'll give it s try.

Much more than I thought it would be. Really interesting to learn more about what it's like to live as a blind person.
