Oops, seems that I forgot to write a journal entry.

Douglas Adams and zoologist Mark Carwardine undertook nine journeys to depict nine species on the brink of extinction for a BBC radio documentary:
- the aye-aye in Madagascar
- the Komodo dragon in Indonesia
- the kakapo in New Zealand
- the mountain gorilla in Zaire
- the northern white rhinoceros in Zaire
- the Yangtze river dolphin in China
- the Rodrigues fruit bat in Mauritius
- the Amazonian manatee in Brazil
- the Juan Fernández fur seal in Chile

It's written in Adam's usual humorous, ironic style, but the matter is serious. Dead serious. One species, the Yangtze river dolphin, is since 2002 already regarded to be extinct.
So we have Adam, awe-struck by nature, his brilliant perception of atmosphere-creating details and his natural self-mocking ... and get a thrilling, interesting and a VITAL book.

Adams said (or wrote) once that this is the book of which he is most proud. Indeed. This is his legacy. A must read.
