These three short works - "Lady Susan", "Sanditon" and "The Watsons"- show Jane Austen experimenting with a variety of different literary styles, from melodrama to satire, and exploring a range of social classes and settings.
Jane Austen's epistolary novel Lady Susan has never received much attention in comparison to her other six major novels. It is a short piece, only 70 pages in my edition of The Oxford Illustrated Jane Austen: Minor Works containing forty-one letters and a conclusion. Scholars estimate that it was written between 1793-4 when the young author was in her late teens and represents her first attempts to write in the epistolary format popular with many authors at that time.
The novel LADY SUSAN depicts an unscrupulous coquette, toying with the affections of several men.
The Watsons: The next morning brought a great many visitors. It was the way of the place always to call on Mrs. Edwards the morning after a ball, and this neighbourly inclination was increased in the present instance by a general spirit of curiosity on Emma's account, as everybody wanted to look again at the girl who had been admired the night before by Lord Osborne. Many were the eyes, and various the degrees of approbation with which she was examined.
Sanditon: In a completed version of Jane Austen's unfinished manuscript, a young country woman visits a fashionable seaside resort and gains insight into the complexities of human nature.

Thanks for releasing this unknown to me Jane Austen!
Finally got around to reading this. Anyone who is a Jane Austen fan will be interested. The three pieces are really fragments, and the characters not as sympathetic as in the well-known novels. Skip Lady Susan if you are just going to dabble.
