Picked at today at the BC meet at The Old Shades, London, this looks interesting. I've spent quite a bit of time in Oz and like to try new (to me) Aussie authors.

9 out of 10

Oooh what a great book!

The writing really conjures up life in a small town and hard working, hard drinking fellas. I could picture the row of vines, Lucy the dog and the ute bumping along the dusty roads. The style is lyrical with beautful descriptions which I sometimes find tedious in other books, though not in this at all!

Although Charlotte's monalogue at the end is long you come to realise that the author is drawing out the similarities and differences in Smithy and Brett's lives, the choices they've made and the paths they are choosing to travel.

Smithy was a great character and one so sympathetically drawn, I could easily read more about him before and after the events of this book....Jeremy Chambers if you google yourself and happen to read my thoughts, please write another about this town and characters!
