from the back:

"In Terra Nullius, Sven Lindqvist travels 7000 miles through Australia, lyrically describing its landscape while telling the history of the country, and revealing the shocking treatment of its Aboriginal peoples."

The blurb is misleading. This is not a lyrical book. I was disappointed in it. I wanted to know more about Aboriginal history and about the relations between Aborigines and European settlers in Australia. I knew the history was appalling. Lindqvist manages to make it sound almost mundane. There's no linear narrative, just short anecdotes of "And then this happened!" so it's hard to put all of the pieces together into one big picture. I feel that the book was written more for shock value than for education. And as with most things that rely on shock value, it gets old quickly. I'll have to find a better source so I actually can learn about this.
