Journal Entry 1 by Tintti from Jyväskylä, Keski-Suomi Finland on Tuesday, January 31, 2012
From back cover: "1985. First-year student and Kate Bush fan Brian falls for beautiful University Challenge queen Alice Harbinson in a brilliant comedy of love, class, growing up and the all-important difference between knowladge and wisdom." I like David Nicholl's style. Especially I enjoy his dialogue, it's very natural and flowing. This book is nice, but not as good as "One Day" by the same writer.

I picked this book up from our meeting tonight. I have heard many people praising David Nicholls, let' see if I like him. Although If Tintti likes him, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a nice read.

I wasn't sure what I expected of this book.I had sort of Nick Hornby in my mind, witty, and clever and some nice pop references of course. This didn't fall far behind that image but to be honest: Nick Hornby does this genre much, much better. But this is a good and enjoyable book nevertheless. Maybe I wanted a bit more something, now the author just touches the raw nerve ends of the difficulties and pain of growing up and dealing with leaving home and being an adult and wanting so much to find someone to share alll the beautiful stuff with... What is this genre anyway? Dude Lit? Never mind the proper term, maybe I will read David Nicholls in the future too. Thanks Tintti for giving me the opportunity to read the book.
