The Fur Person

I remember reading this book many, many years ago, so I was pleased to find this good-condition softcover at the Used Book Superstore (and on a sale weekend yet!). It's Sarton's charming memoir, written in the '50s, about her cat - the "fur person" of the title. I should say, written BY the cat, as it's from his point of view, with references to Gentle Voice and Brusque Voice (the two people who care for him) and to a list of rules that a Gentleman Cat should live by (including "When addressed, a Gentleman Cat does not move a muscle. He looks as if he hadn't heard"). There are delightful descriptions of the cat's first encounter with a catnip mouse, of the difficulties of moving house, etc., all charmingly told.
I'm adding this book to the Cat Stories bookbox, which I'll be handing off to BCer eponine38 over lunch tomorrow. Hope someone enjoys the book!
This came home in my Cat Stories bookbox today. This looks like one of the ones I should read before sending it out again. Thanks for sharing, GoryD!
Sadly, MaryZee passed suddenly in September 2012. MaryZee's daughter is now ready to rehome her mom's books and I was willing to collect and redistribute them to keep her literary legacy alive.
Gotta read it first before I pass it on.
