To future listeners: After I purchased this set, I discovered tape 10 was damaged. The audio tape somehow was severed and the previous owner attempted to "fix" it by tying the two ends of the tape together in a knot. In an attempt to fix the fix, I cut out the damaged portion and spliced the ends together. This has resulted in a very small gap in the story; the chapter that is affected is Chapter Twenty-Four: Sectum Sempra.

Here's what you miss on side A: " ... Once in the corridor, he broke into a run toward Gryffindor Tower. Most people were walking the other way; they gaped at him, drenched in water and blood, but he answered none of the questions fired at him as he ran past. He felt stunned; it was as though a beloved pet had turned suddenly savage ..."

And on side B: " ... Snape sneered. 'It must be such a comfort to think that, though they are gone, a record of their great achievements remains ...' Harry felt the familiar boiling sensation in the pit of his stomach. Biting his tongue to prevent himself retaliating, he sat down in front of the boxes and pulled one toward him."

Sorry about this, but you can see a very small portion is affected and the tapes are still eminently listenable. I hope this doesn't diminish your enjoyment of the story.

I believe this is the third time I have read this book: once, when it first came out; again, before the final book came out; and now, with the series long complete. I noticed the little things this time around—things that seemed inconsequential at the first and second reading, but are now cleverly laid clues knowing how it all turns out. I still shed a few tears as Fawkes, the phoenix sang, and at Dumbledore's funeral, and I am still blown away by Snape's betrayal, hoping the ending will change *this* time around.

Jim Dale was a very good reader: I greatly enjoyed listening to his British accent and pronunciations even though, in the first few hours, he seemed to give every female character a French accent, especially Hermione. I love these books, so if I happen to come across another audiobook, I'll definitely listen.
