In post-apartheid South Africa, power is shifting. David Lurie, professor of English at Cape Town University, finds his role changed around him to his consternation. When he is forced to resign his post after having an affair with one of his students and refusing to defend himself before a hearing, he moves in with his daughter on a remote smallholding, finding solace in the routines of rural life. But a violent attack on the smallholding opens up cracks in all of his relationships.

Bleak and disturbing but a gripping examination of a country in turmoil after generations of oppression.
