Journal Entry 1 by Coffee-1-OBCZ from Cardiff, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, January 08, 2012
Back Cover Plucky Taylor Greer grows up poor in rural Kentucky with two goals: to avoid pregnancy and to get away. She succeeds on both counts when she buys an old car and heads west. But midway across the country motherhood catches up with her when she becomes the guardian of an abandoned baby girl she calls Turtle. In Tuscon they encounter an extraordinary array of people, and with their help, Taylor builds herself and her sweet, stunned child a life.

I picked this up as a quick read, to get a flavour of the author as I have The Poisonwod Bible waiting to be read. I would describe it as a well written and charming little book, something of a holiday read for me. It was only later that I discovered it was in fact Kingslover's first book published in 1989. I'm looking forward to her later work.
