From Amazon.ca:
A gay wedding gone bad. A missing groom. An unsullied reputation at risk. Enter Russell Quant — cute, gay, and a rookie private detective. With a nose for good wine and bad lies, Quant is off to France on his first big case. From the smudgy streets of Paris, he cajoles and sleuths his way to the pastel-colored promenade of Sanary-sur-Mer.Back in Saskatoon, Quant comes face-to-face with a client who may be the bad guy, a quarry who turns up in the most unexpected place, and a cast of colorful suspects: the vile sister, the best friend, the colleague, the ex-lover, the lawyer, the priest, the snoopy neighbor — are they involved? Or is someone else lurking in the shadows? As he works through his case, Quant juggles his detective gig with the responsibilities of a personal life full of captivating personalities.Taking a cue from the style and humor of Robert B. Parker, and evoking Armistead Maupin with his wit and warmth, Anthony Bidulka's Amuse Bouche is a rich, saucy, and engaging read.

I picked up this book from a used book shop because Anthony Bidulka is scheduled to be a guest of honor at When Words Collide 2012. Having never read anything by him I figured I should do my due diligence and read one of his books. It is classified by the publisher(Insomniac Press) as mystery/gay literature. I honestly could care less what the sexual orientation of the author or main character is - simply put, this is a great mystery book. The writing is well done, the story moves along at the perfect pace, the characters are fantastic(I may be in love with Russel Quant, unfortunately I am a woman), and at times this book made me burst out laughing. Mr. Bidulka has a very dry and good natured sense of humor :)
I definitely am going to be reading more in the Russel Quant series and look forward very much to meeting Anthony Bidulka at When Words Collide in August.

I am taking this very entertaining mystery to the BC meeting at the Joshua Tree Cafe to share with my BC friends :)
Picked up at the January meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at the Joshua Tree Café.
Well, that was a fun little Canadian comedy/mystery romp! Thanks for sourcing out and sharing this great new author to our BookCrossing group!
Looking forward to meeting the author at the 2012 When Words Collide book festival.

Taking to the February meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers at the Joshua Tree Café.
I always read the dedication at the front of the book, and most often seen is the common 'For my spouse, parent' uninspired statements. This book has a thoughtful, touching, emotional thank you that should be copied and provided as an example of a proper speech for Oscar nominees.
Thanks for the book with a great dedication, Minerva101. :)

I have travelled to Saskatoon several times to visit relatives so it was fun recognizing the locations depicted in the novel. I did object to Bidulka's description of the Ukrainian Catholic Church on page 108, a church I have been to for weddings. It is obvious to me the architect's inspiration for the church's design: the ubiquitous farm outbuilding called the quonset. I found a picture of the actual church on the internet, check out the journal picture.
Taken to the Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
I'm next on this one...
What a fantastic book! I am sad that it sat on my shelf for so long. I think I may also be in love with the main character, what a doll! I'm signed up to attend When Words Collide so will be making a point to meet the author. I have two of the next in the series and can't wait to take a look at them.
Taking this to our July meet up where it will be passed to the next person on the list.

A very enjoyable read. I liked the writing style and the characterization, though I caught on to a few of the twists rather early on in the book. I also liked how the main character still seemed to maintain a random kind of life while solving cases, even though his bad luck with his love life was kinda sad.
Thanks for the great read!

Taken to get together
Wasn't at the bookcrossing meet up so my daughter brought it home for me...
I einjoyed this book. I found it interesting that Minerva101 said that it was a mystery/gay literature book. Yes it defintely was a gay book - interesting insight to the gay lifestyle. I wonder if we had mystery/women literature books or mystery/negro books in the past. Perhaps soon, this book will just be a mystery book - and a good one at that!
Taking to the monthly bookcrossing meet up to pass on to another crosser.
Picked up at book crossing meeting at Joshua tree cafe
Read this book and passed it along to a fellow book crosser. Fun mystery novel and more of a fluff read. Beginning was a little slow but I like the quirky characters and the fact this is set in Canada ;)

Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing October meet-up. Yay, the first book in the series. I finally get to read it.
What a great book. The mystery keeps you guessing right until the end; I had no idea who the murderer was. It was also neat to see a story set in Saskatchewan and in Saskatoon no less. It's the sort of place that not many people know about or visit. Russell is an amusing detective and he has an interesting set of friends around him. The fact that he's a gay didn't matter at all to me. Can't wait to read the other books in the series.
Passing on this book to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing November meet-up.
Picked this up at the Calgary November BookCrossing meetup.
I've heard great things about this series. Excited to read this first one.

Picked up March Calgary Meeting
Picked this one up at today's meetup, I hope to see it at the top of my TBR Mountain Range, one day soon.
I'm still wrapped in the after glow of the last page of Amuse Boucher. Loved it and once again, I thank my Calgary Bookcrossing friends for introducing me to Anthony Bidulka. Although I haven't been to Saskatoon since I was a child and visiting my Grandmother, I remembered Ste Peter and Paul Ukrainian church, we had gone there with Granny. It was personal connections that endeared me to Russel Quant and his latest story.
Great read and perfect to start my Christmas Break with.
Happy New Year, my Bookcrossing friends, see you in Jan at the meetups!

Mystery isn't normally a genre I gravitate towards. I did enjoy this book though, it had lots of colorful characters and although it took me a bit to really get into it, I was hooked by the end.
Picked up at the Calgary BookCrossing Group.
This book made it's way back to me last meeting and I forgot to journal - oops!
I was at a meetup at Cravings and got this book from another reader. I have read from 3 on but never this one so looking forward to it!
Well, I have read most of the other ones before I read the first one. Enjoyed it.
