Journal Entry 1 by Plum-crazy from Brighouse, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Saturday, January 21, 2012
It is two o'clock in the morning when Andrew Gulliver gets the call he has been half-expecting for all of his adult life. His twin sister, Annie, is gone. Annie has been taking off on adventures around the world ever since she was sixteen. But this time is different. Last month, bright, beautiful Annie was held in an Italian mental hospital and diagnosed as a schizophrenic. Until now, her family have refused to face the fact that something is really wrong. Forced to confront the truth at last, Andrew embarks on a desperate search to find Annie before it's too late...

An intriguing read about a family coming to grips with mental illness written from the perspective of Andrew Gulliver, whose twin sister Annie has been diagnosed as schizophrenic.
Not an up-lifting read you might think but somehow it is often quite funny & the family scenes are very vivid & credible, & following Andrew's journey as he finds out about events in his sister's life, & whether these actually happened or are figments of her imagination, is both absorbing & satisfying.
I have to say that when I picked the book up (another Scottish charity bargain at 20p!) I din't know Evan Hunter was a pseudonym of Ed McBain & I'm sorry to say that if I had I probably wouldn't have picked it up - more fool me! I might have to dig into hubby's McBain collection now.....
