This is a great book! A book about a strong bond between two friends in Afghanistan during a violent and politically chaotic time.
I picked this book up as part of our Christmas / New Year's party where we exchanged books based entirely on their first sentence. This book's first sentence is: "I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a friggid overcast day in the winter of 1975." From the first title I didn't realize that I had already read the book. Oh well, this is a spectacular book that everyone should read. I'm going to take it a few meetups to see if anyone else in the group hasn't read it, if not then I will make sure it is pased along.
Karen in Calgary. Just got the book from Sarah. Looking forward to reading it. Thanks.
It's a great book. Even though I hadn't much knowledge about life in Afghanistan, I was touched by the story. I think it's the common themes of love, death, friendship and redemption that can be upsetting and inspiring at the same time.
This book has been returned to me. I will save it to pass along to someone who hasn't read it.
New Crossing member book: Picked up at the July 14, 2012 Book Crossing meeting in Calgary.
This was the first book I got when I joined book crossing and it took me over a year to finally read it. It's not really my cup of tea. It's about trust and loyalty and the connections we make in life while at the same time forcing the reader (me) to question my own capacity for the same.
It was given to me as a no strings attached read, release, and do-with-as-you-like book when I joined so I will be releasing it in the wild of the European tour/cruise I will be on later this week. If I knew where I'd be specifically, I'd make a scheduled journal release but as it stands I'll have to trust fate and hope this isn't its last entry.
To the finder, hello from Calgary Alberta Canada!
