From Waterstone's to Helsinki. I'll always remember the meeting by the DIY Naughty Garden Gnome I got as a present!
While in London I saw two musicals and one farse, so reading backstage stories will be interesting.

Finally began to read this and came here to comment that I don't like Bergerac's i.e. John Nettles' s wife Joyce all that much. Seems like a person I'd like to avoid, so luckily I'm not a British actor who would depend on her for getting a job (she is a casting director).
Everybody here praises theatre and its atmosphere, but it is such a pity that great performances are -puff - gone once the show is over. They stay in the minds of the audience for a while, but then they are gone forever. So film actors have that immortality as a big plus. Could they not film theatre shows, too, so they could be enjoyed again? Well, some shows have been filmed, but on a regular basis?
One third read and it seems that one thing is mutual to all these people - passion about what they do. Are you all like that, Vekiki? Some people are born with the "fault", like choreographer Susan Stroman who has always visualizer music. When she hears music she sees whole scenarios, with costumes, and fights and story. Perhaps she is the "Rainman" of theatre.
In America everything is much bigger, like their mottos: "God plays, popular prices." (The Lincoln Center Theater). What? Oops, it reads "Good plays, popular prices", my mistake ๐.

A few chapters ago I read about Sir Richard Eyre directing the Broadway version of Mary Poppins and now we, the book and I, are in Vienna and I just came back from seeing Mary Poppins, the musical. I had always loved the film and much of it could not be done in theatre, but this performance exceeded all my expectations. It was brilliant and luckily it had English sub-titles, because I don't speak German. But it made me laugh and cry and thoroughly enjoy myself.
Tomorrow the cultural shock will be delivered in the form of Spanish Riding School in the morning and Italian opera I've never even heard of in the evening (why am I thinking of 'Friends of Italian opera' from Some Like it Hot?). And in between we'll have Releanna the bookcrosser as our city guide โบโบโบ.

Back home again, this was my read during the flight. ENVY lifted it's ugly head when the dresser told that she had dressed Jeremy Irons ๐๐๐. I could do that for free ๐.
Although flying director Ben Haynes explained how Bert was able to walk up the wall and step-dance against the ceiling like there were no laws of gravity in Mary Poppins, I still can't grasp how it was done. But it looked superb from the audience, a piece of magic!

Thank you Kirjakko for thinking of me! Looking forward to reading this!
I read this book ages ago, but just never got around writing about it here. I quite enjoyed the stories! Some had very familiar aspects in them.
