From the back:
Time: the early 27th century. Fifty years ago, human intervention triggered an ancient alien system designed to warn of the emergence of intelligence. For aeons the Inhabitors have waited.
Now the response is on its way...

I tried to get into this, it is a good and interesting story but as it is a slow read and is over 700 pages, I just don't have the time to invest to it.

Received in the post this week as part of VBBOz. Thanks!
I have been contemplating this book for 3 years now(!!) and finally got around to reading it. I love the science and thought in this book. And interestingly, it only occurred to me that it might be part of a series ( it is the 2nd book in Revelation Space) in the final few chapters - i.e. it worked well as a stand alone. It was LONG, though. I'm not sure if it was the book or me ( winding down at the end of the year), but after a fairly clippy start it look me quite a while to finish it off. All in all, though, a good intro to Reynolds work.
