I am not a big fan of The Novel, it's just not my genre, but this was an interesting and moving story. It got off to a slow start and I was thinking about not finishing it. But my best chum from elementary school is the author--how could I give up? And I'm glad I continued because it got better.

At the end, where Henry winds up in London among the hip and the mod, I was reminded of another friend's older sister, who found herself in London with the hip and the mod and in very similar circumstances (and at about the same time, late 1960s).

This very large book arrived today all the way from Rome. It had a bit of an adventure when I went to take it out of my mailbox as it was really too large to easily slide it out of the box. My mailman must have really shoved to get it into the box.But I wiggled it and jiggled it and managed to remove it without damage but did rip one of the stamps a bit. I save foreign stamps for my cousin and was happy that one stamp survived the trip.
Thank you Hayes for sending me such an interesting looking book. Thank you also for the fridge magnet which is already in place on my fridge. I love magnets.

I began to read this book a few days ago. A few pages in, I was sure that I had already read it. But I had no idea how it ended so I will continue. I think what must have happened was that I began to read it but because it is a large book, I left it home to finish later when I set off to visit my sister in Manitoba. Changing planes part way, I had a cardiac arrest and by the time I recovered enough to come home, a lot of my short term memory was gone. I will put it aside if the ending comes to me, but right now I will forge on and hope I enjoy it as much as I have up to this point.

The idea of having "practice babies" in a school was not the greatest idea. Henry came away being loved by almost everyone but very mixed up himself.
He wandered the world, never really content and finally comes back to New York looking for his playmate from nursery school.

I found this book in my mum's, kayjay33, collection shortly after her death at the end of April. I enjoyed the story and the actual concept of a practice baby doesn't seem to far off. I remember my home economics classes teaching me how to cook, clean, etc. And my own children had mechanical dolls they had to take care of, so maybe having an actual baby in the school for a period is a bit extreme, but it did provide a good read and looked at the affect it had on the baby. As this book is one of my mum's books on her shelf, I will release it shortly in memory of my mum.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. She was such a wonderful person. I'm glad I was able to know her, even if virtually.
Thank you for taking the time to journal and release the book.
