I think if I hadn't needed to push through and finish this for bookclub it would have languished for some time. It's just so grim. Even as the story was building up to when I should have not wanted to put it down, I kept putting it down beause it was just dark and gloomy and made me feel in in a fog. Perhaps that is part of the intention, and certainly much is left unresovled, but it didn't make a for an engagaing reading experience.
