Journal Entry 1 by amyem from Cambridge, Massachusetts USA on Tuesday, December 13, 2011
I found this more ambitious than totally successful. I enjoyed the alternate history aspects of it but I felt like it was about 8 different kinds of books wrapped up in one. Suprisingly enough, I found his essay in the The New Yorker (reprinted in the back) about the way he got started on the book, to be extremely enjoyable so I don't think it was about the writing, per se. I just couldn't get engaged with the story and it felt like the characters were just stereotypes and not people. I think I felt the same kind of detachment with The Final Solution, though the ending was very poigant on that one and this just seemed to limp to a finish.
