Purchased at Miami's library book sale for BookCrossing.

Kerewin is a female artist who lives along in a tower on the South Island beaches of New Zealand, estranged from her family. One night, an intruder comes in - a thin, almost feral boy who cannot speaks.

The book takes much longer than expected to read, because it's not an easy read. Partly the language - I suppose New Zealand English is somewhat different (took me a while to figure out berloody actually means bloody), not to mention all the Maori phrases you need translation for. Partly the format - there are a lot of internal thoughts expressed, among the dialogue and narration, that really confuses me. Often takes some re-read to figure out whose thoughts they are, or exactly what happens. Therefore, while it is an unusual, ambitious work, I can't really say I enjoy it.

Sending to my BC Monopoly teammate, prachitulshan, in memory of the great time we had playing the game.

Thank you so much for this surprise Azuki! I received the book sometime in January just before moving to a new city, and totally forgot to journal this in all that hurry.
It was very sweet of you to send me a wishlist book in memory of the fun time we had during Monopoly - certainly won't forget that game, especially since I've never wild-released (or seens others do so) so many books in such a short time, with such crazy themes! Thanks again. :)

ETA: I have read and enjoyed this book, though I agree with azuki about it being a difficult-at-times, slow read. Nevertheless, well worth it overall.
