Wonderstruck

Spectacular - as always - Brian Selznick is brilliant - I couldn't put this book down and read it all in one sitting.
I am going to share this copy with my Bookcrossing friends! :)
Set fifty years apart, two independent stories - Ben''s told in words and Rose''s in pictures - weave back and forth with mesmerizing symmetry. How they unfold and ultimately intertwine will surprise you, challenge you, and leave you breathless with wonder.
Ever since his mom died, Ben feels lost.
At home with her father, Rose feels alone.
He is searching for someone, but he is not sure who.
She is searching for something, but she is not sure what.
When Ben finds a mysterious clue hidden in his mom''s room,
When a tempting opportunity presents itself to Rose,
Both children risk everything to find what''s missing.
With over 460 pages of original drawings and playing with the form he invented in his trailblazing debut novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Brian Selznick once again sails into uncharted territory and takes readers on an awe-inspiring journey. Rich, complex, affecting, and beautiful, Wonderstruck is a stunning achievement from a uniquely gifted artist and visionary.

I am taking this spectacular book to the Calgary bookcrossing meeting at the Joshua Tree Cafe to find a new reader.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Oh, my goodness! I can't wait to read this. I was so inspired by today's meeting that I stopped at Costco this afternoon to buy The Invention of Hugo Cabret and then read it in one sitting.
Thanks for sharing and I'll bring this right back to the group!

Like minerva101, I devoured this in one sitting. What a beautiful story with exquisite drawings.
I like the idea of developing one story in drawings and the other in text, until they merged.
Such a sweet story. Thank you so much for buying and sharing.

Taking to the Calgary BookCrossing post-Christmas meet-up at the Dove's Nest, so that I can go home with a new reader.
Brought the book home from the New Year high tea and started reading. Halfway through the book I realize I didn't make a JE .... done.
Interesting storylines: one with conventional text and one graphic, with suspense throughout even with the graphic story. I found it amusing that Ben's story was set in the
1970's when running away from home was simpler without today's technology tracking every move you make. :)
Thanks again Minerva101.

Took the book to the Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
Now it in my family's hands. My daughters were so excited when they saw this book and the look of disappointment when I laid down the law and called dibbs. Their turn will come soon! Thank you so much lovely Minerva! LOL
MARVELOUS,MARVELOUS,MARVELOUS!!
My daughters and I so enjoyed the book! Now the question is on everyone's lips...will Brian Selznick do a third book, and when!?

Ooooh, this is so exciting. I loved Hugo Cabret... now if only Mt. TBR wasn't so high, Its really getting to the point of 'scale only with oxygen'.
Ohhhhhh! Its such a sweet story, it filled me with warm fuzzy feelings! I've been trying to write more substantive journal entries. But I really don't want to risk spoiling anything for anyone. So I think I'll leave it at warm fuzzy feelings.
Its a very fast read, so it practically counts as a slim book, at any rate, I don't really want to leave it at home when it has a waiting list. Its coming with me to the Calgary BC meeting.
I'm next on this one... Can't wai!
Wow!!! What a beautiful engaging story. Brian is not only a very talented artist but he has a way with words too. I loved how the stories interacted... warm fuzzy feelings indeed!
Taking this to this month's meeting to pass along to the next person on the list.

I think the way Brian jumped back and forth through time in this story was done really well. Had a great ending. Will be passing this along at this month's bookcrossing meeting at Joshua Tree Cafe.
I brought this home from the December lunch at the Joshua Tree Cafe. Oh - I can hardly wait!!
Thanks Minerva!!! Loved the book. It was inspiring and cozy and delightful. Perfect book for reading when tired. Glad I saved it for now.
Taking this to the March meet up at Joshua Tree Cafe to be picked up or left on the bookshelf. I know this will be snapped up.
Grabbed at get together
A beautiful book. Thanks for the lovely read!
Taken to get together
Picked up at the Calgary BookCrossing April meet-up. Loved Hugo. Can't wait to read this one.
Whoops, forgot to review this after I finished. Awesome. Absolutely loved it. Loved the idea of telling two stories at once; one with the words and one solely in pictures. It all totally makes sense in the context of the book.
Passing this book on to the next interested BookCrosser.
Picked this up at the June book crossing meeting. Definitely won't be taking this on the bus with me too heavy to carry back & forth. Looking forward to reading it at home.
After I brought it home I wondered why, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Although the story was predictable it didn't make it any less sweet. It was very enjoyable and a super quick read.
Taking this to the August BookCrossing meeting at Cravings to be enjoyed by the next reader
Picked up at yesterday's bookcrossing meet up in Calgary and finished it in (pretty much) one sitting. It's not a fantasy the way the cover had me thinking it was (covers can be deceiving after all) but still a sweet story. I love how the pictures were used as a medium rather than words for one of the story lines. The story wasn't challenging but the medium it was conveyed in was the real art.
Will be brought to the next Calgary bookcrossing meet up and handed off to the next in line.

Picked up at BC meeting.
This is a great book. The picture story idea is wonderful and engaging. Finished in one go as I couldn't put it down.
will bring to BC meeting
Picked up at the December Bookcrossing meetup.
I loved this book! Even though it's a physically large book, it's a quick read. Loved how the pictures told a back story and interwove with the words. Learned things about museums that was interesting as well.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Taking it to the January bookcrossing meetup.
I started to read this book and only got into 40 or so pages and realized this was not for me. Not sure if it was the size that was daunting...
I did love the pictures and and how the author merged it all together...very unique.

I can't really add much more than what was already said by the other readers.
The two narratives told in different mediums really adds to the overall story. While I did like Hugo a bit more, I think this book better uses the text/picture interplay in the storytelling.
Thanks Minerva101!
