Journal Entry 3 by wing6of8wing at -- Mail or by hand-rings, RABCK, meetings, etc, Virginia USA on Sunday, December 11, 2011
I selected this from the wrap-it-up book game at the holiday part based on the first line. My understanding of the rules is that I need to at least try to read it by the time of the next holiday party. Mt. TBR is huge, but I should be able to accomplish that goal.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

This was just sitting on the huge pile that is Mt. TBR and I saw that ravencat was looking to restart a bookring that she had done with this book after the original copy disappeared. I figured I would donate to the cause, get my name put on the mailing list, and keep this poor little book from being bored.

Popped it in the mail this morning to lunatum in Finland, who was next on the list to read it. At some point it will come back here for me to read before continuing on its bookcrossing journey.

I've been so busy lately, that I sent the book forward without reading it.

Journal Entry 8 by Scarlett07 at Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Wednesday, March 28, 2012
I received this book day before yesterday. Sorry I didn't post it sooner but life got in the way and I couldn't get to my computer. I'm anxious to get started and since I just finished the book I was reading today, I will start this one tonight.

Thanks for sending Lunatum and sorry you didn't have a chance to read it.

Journal Entry 9 by Scarlett07 at Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Monday, April 2, 2012
Just finished this book and enjoyed it as much as I did "Glass Castle". I loved Lily and Big Jim, they were quite the characters and such hard workers.

I'll pass this on to the next person as soon as I get an address. Thanks SqueakyChu for providing this book.

Journal Entry 10 by Scarlett07 at Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Wednesday, April 4, 2012
The book is on it's way to Wisconsin. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 11 by imawinn2 at Neenah, Wisconsin USA on Tuesday, April 10, 2012
Half-Broke Horses has arrived in Wisconsin. I have a bookray book that I'm reading right now but it is a huge tome! So, I'm going to do the double book read thing so that I won't fall behind in either book. I started reading this book last night and can already tell that I'm going to love this tale. Thanks so much for passing this along. :-)

Journal Entry 12 by imawinn2 at Neenah, Wisconsin USA on Sunday, April 29, 2012
Absolutely loved this book! I finished it up yesterday and came away wishing I could have met Jeannette Walls grandma, Lily Casey. She, as Ms Walls describes, "was a character". I loved the stories of her life and admired her spirit. I think if Lily Casey would have gotten thrown into the eye of a cyclone, she would have found a way to survive it or beat it. Thanks so much for sharing this book 6of8 and ravencat.

I have contacted Erishkigal but it looks like she is backed up, for the moment, with other bookrings/rays and would like to be moved down the list. Let me know if you want me to send the book on to biisbsw instead.

This was a fun book to read. What an interesting life Lily had.

On another note I wanted to apoligize for holding this book up. It was quite a busy summer for me, all positive things, but busy none the less. I thought I had kept things on track but it does looks like this one slipped through the cracks. I have finished it and have the next reader's address already so it should be in the mail by Saturday.

Geez! I am truly, truly sorry. I absolutely thought I had journalled this, and 'talked' to 6of8, and needn't hurry, as life just gets crazier..... I have the book, and have just finally started it.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I LOVED this book!!!!! What an amazing woman, what a life~~what ovaries!!! I would love to have known Lily in the flesh, and am thankful to know her by way of her granddaughter.

I'm not sure when I finished this, but it was before the Anniversary sale at my local independent bookstore (Nov)~~this I know as I ask if someone could recommend another book in the same vein. (nope. what was suggested didn't even come close!

I know I put off journalling as I knew I could~~was going to return to 6 in person when she came to visit the area for the holidays. And that will be today :) I'll be meeting her at Caputo's this afternoon. I've gotten so bad about journalling (apart from laziness) let me copy and paste what I wrote from another release today . As I keep trying to find all the jumps, even a few sentences takes forever...

copied and pasted:
Oh, hell; I just get worse and worse about journalling :( There is a huge stack of books here, read but not yet journalled. Some of it is busy-ness, much of it is sheer procrastination, and a lot of it is that this computer makes typing exceedingly ype and mpeove and retydifficult.....as the curser jumps around and I have to move and ret....<--there's an example I just left as it ended up. My brother-in-law-keeps promising to come fix, but who knows when.....in the meantime, it's one more reason for me not to get around to journalling.

Thanks all for sharing this and passing along!

Had a great chance to meet and spend some time with Erishkigal yesterday and she passed this book back to me. I had heard quite a few good tings and everyone here seemed to love it, so I figured it would be good reading on the plane back to Maryland this afternoon.

I opened it just to take a peek last night as I was lying in bed. Finished it this morning and had a grand time. Lily was quite a gal and she did well in the husband she chose. The hard-scrabble existence they led was fascinating and their ability to keep on moving, getting up every time they were thrown, was quite inspiring. Made it hard to put down -- plus the little tiny snippets in which it is reading make it go that much faster.

About 3/4 of the way in, I decided I had to finish this before I head home today, because I want to pass it along to my mother. She grew up on a dry farm in Southern Alberta, miles away from anywhere, so I think she will enjoy this book very much.

Handed this one off to my mother to read, since she is both a former teacher and a farmer's daughter. I thought she would really enjoy it. She will likely return it to me at some future date.

Got this back from my mother who read it months ago and has only been able to recall that she thought it was "good."

Now to determine what to do with this copy.

Journal Entry 22 by wing6of8wing at Silver Spring, Maryland USA on Wednesday, December 25, 2013
Should have done that last one as a "Catch" instead of a journal entry so it would show up on my "in hands" shelf.
